Great Stuff Mike! Fabulous sounding room with an Aladdins cave of microphones and super human auditory senses, to boot. Ive been trying to convince people for years that the large "S" on Clark Kents alter ego, is infact for Sound Engineer! So, there you have it! I need to be aquanting myself with those tie lines and patch bay. Keep up the great work Mike. Awesome!

Why do you use control surfaces when you have an AWS that does DAW control?
@RimshotProductions
@RimshotProductions Ай бұрын
Great question. The SSL uses HUI to control pro tools faders and, whilst that works great, I like the extra depth that Eucon surfaces like the S1 have. Folder spill is amazing! Unfortunately, Avid won’t let SSL have access to those kind of features. It’s a bit of a juggle moving the control surfaces around during sessions. It’s a work in progress! :-)

Gates are normally opened by input signal. How are you getting the gate to close on input signal?

Only difference I hear is slight eq difference on top end and low mids. I would attribute this to the actual unit modelled by UA

Yes please to the template! Particularly interested to know how you set up differently for your digital and vinyl master chains, is it a set reference level that you stick to for vinyl?
@RimshotProductions
@RimshotProductions 3 ай бұрын
Thanks Paul. I’ll sort something out and post a link in these comments. Re the vinyl master, it’s not a set reference level. Although I do use meters, I go by ear and feel. Usually there are a couple of dB less limiting on output of the vinyl master, just so it breathes a bit more. The rest of the chain is normally the same for the vinyl as the digital. So much is down to the cutting engineer but I’ve found if it sounds good - dynamic, not crazy amounts of sibilance etc, it’ll cut really well.

Thanks for the comment! Yep, Muteomatic is great - I use it on remote sessions for my zoom talkback mic (with audio overs for my pro tools output) but as it’s not AAX DSP, it introduces latency into the headphones during recording sessions.

That hardware sounds fantastic! Thanks for the video! (Ps, interesting about the Fairchild. I’ve heard and used several emulations and the only one that grabs my ear and seems to add something special to the sound is the Joseph Puig version (puigchild) Electronics don’t age gracefully and it’s always fascinating to hear how that principle affects different vintage hardware emulations. Some in good ways and some in less exciting ways. Same experience for me with the LA2A emulation. There’s Something special about the Chris Lord Alge version to my ear as well. Still really impressed by your video and what I heard through the hardware. First time I’ve heard a compressor that would make me want to look at some thing besides plug-ins I’m using at this point.

That's a big difference from other people here cutting the hell of the piano sound to save the mix. Most of those mixes are pretty lifeless when it come to keys, this gentleman just showed you can have both worlds! Thanks for the explanation!!
