A heartfelt thanks to Professor John Esposito for sharing his time and invaluable insights. The phrase “a gentleman and a scholar” could not be more fitting to describe John. The Muslim community in the West owes a great deal to his academic contributions and his tireless efforts in combating anti-Muslim and anti-Islam prejudice. To learn more about John and the Bridge Initiative, where he serves as Director, please refer to the link in the description. A quick note: We experienced some technical issues during the recording of this episode, including disruptions and the loss of video footage in some parts. However, the audio remains intact. Malmo Sweden's Capital use to be the Safest City in the world for women, then migrants came, then went upwards of 1000%, 7-10 grapes was migrants from the Afganistani, hell they went to Finland, Same thing happened. Same as Norway and Iceland. Afganistan may have "Countless Natural Resources" but is run by a terror organsation, 99% of the world including Russia thinks that Afganistan is state of terror that's run by terrorists and don't get me started on the female rights persecutions.

@@ryanthompson5761 @ryanthompson5761 Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate your viewership and also your concerns. I am just saying that the statements you are making are sweeping statements that are not justifiable. I responded previously as I thought you were dismissing Afghanistan - the state, as a whole. But you have now clarified that it is not the country you are dismissive of, but the Afghan people as a whole. This is even more worrying 😊 Afghans are proud, hospitable people with a glorious past. Afghans produced Rumi, Al-Biruni and Avicenna It is unfortunate that Afghanistan has been embroiled in almost non-stop and very brutal wars for almost half a century now. all of these wars have been wars that others have waged on them. Given these circumstances, I personally believe it’s a testament to the resilience of the Afghan people that they remain as warm-hearted and life-affirming as they are. Most others would have been deeply scarred by the psychological toll of such prolonged conflict. This is not to say that I am denying that Sweden has problems with their Afghan population. Maybe they do.. I do not know. But I would say: 1 the total population of Afghans globally is around 40 milliion. This can vary according to sources. 2 The total no of Afghans living in Europe as a whole is around 700k-800k again, this varies depending on sources. 3 So the number of Afghans living in the entire Europe is 1.75% to 2% of the total Afghan population. 4 Surely - even you would admit, not every Afghan living in europe is a criminal? 5 Even if for arguments sake we say that every Afghan in every European country is a criminal and a crook, still the best you can say based soly on the European experience is that 2% of All Afghans gblobally are crooks. Now for the problem with Afghans in Europe, frankly speaking, this is a problem for the Europeans or the 2% of Afghans living there. It is not a concern of others. It is for the European countries themselves to worry about how to manage and maintain the immigrant population it allows to live inside it’s borders. Why Europe allows so many immigrants to settle in Europe, and how they think people from such different cultural background can adapt to the European lifestyle is a complex matter. But again, this is a European problem, not an Afghan problem. Afghans have their own problems to worry about. One suggestion I could give to Europe as a whole is to maybe stop ‘liverating’ countries around the world? Live within your borders!! European and US waged wars have literally set the world on fire and now they are complaining that it is getting too hot for them at home. My heart bleeds. Ps: Malmö isn’t Sweden’s capital; that’s Stockholm 😊

A priceless talk. It is always a pleasure to listen to Anderson. I don't know if it will be him or someone else, but one day, someone will have to do an extensive study of the relations of convenience between Sunni political Islam in general, or Salafism in particular, and the strategic, commercial and military interests of countries like the United States or the United Kingdom. And to what extent Salafism and Sunni Islam have been a proxy for those countries to destabilize, erode or destroy from within their political enemies in the Muslim world, whether they were pan-Arabists and nationalists at first, communists, or later Shiites. Some authors like R. Dreyfuss or M. Curtis have already spoken on the subject, but it is urgent to study how this relationship of convenience survived the Cold War and is still in full force. The ability of American propaganda to make both its allies and its enemies believe that Uncle Sam is the great world dam against extremism and terrorism is as great as its hypocrisy. But caution ‐ The United States has not done all that out of sympathy with religious extremism or terrorism: it has done it because it considered both useful against its enemies. When they were no longer useful to the US, they fought them. People often remember American support for the Afghan Deobandi mujahideen. Some people remember American support for Syrian or Libyan rebels. Even fewer remember American support for Bosnian secessionists or Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood in the Egyptian elections (even though they later supported the coup against him, too). But almost no people know or remember that all this began not with the Axis of Resistance, not with the Arab Spring, not with the Soviet Afghan War, but in 1956 ‐ when, faced with the threat that Nasser would become an uncontrollable figure or move closer to the USSR, the Eisenhower administration ordered the Omega Memorandum to be drawn up, which planned to turn King Saud into a sort of world symbol of the Islamic faith that would neutralise Nasser, rivalling him for popularity among the Arab masses and appealing to pan-Islamist values in contrast to the Egyptian leader's pan-Arabism (the attack on Nasser was twofold, since in addition to being religious and ideological it was also military, first through the Sinai War and then the Six-Day War). Some say that the Memorandum failed because King Saud was deposed by his brother, but the truth is that from 1973 A.S. began to be exactly what was demanded of it: a general directorate for the worldwide export of Salafism (called Wahhabism abroad) at the service of Washington's interests. This USA-Sunni political or militant Islamism alliance continues to operate today against Shiites and non-Islamist Muslim leaders.

@manuelmanzanero5057 Thank you for your thoughtful comment and for recognising Tim Anderson’s analysis. It’s super encouraging to see such well-informed supporters like yourself, engaging with these discussions. You’ve highlighted a critical yet often overlooked aspect of modern geopolitics: the strategic use of Sunni political Islam, particularly Salafism (and Deobandism in South Asia), by global powers like the United States and its allies. This relationship of convenience, where religious extremism has been leveraged as a geopolitical tool, is a recurring pattern that predates the Cold War and continues to shape global politics today. The Omega Memorandum is a striking historical example, showcasing the early U.S. efforts to weaponise ideological movements against nationalist and socialist leaders such as Nasser. I firmly believe in the eventual revival of the Muslim Ummah, though I fear things may worsen significantly before improvement begins. The scheming and manipulation of external powers can only delay progress for so long. I remain hopeful for the future of Muslim-majority countries, just as I do for the nations of Africa and Latin America, as they navigate their paths toward a brighter, more independent future.

We thank Professor Behlul Ozkan for his time and analysis. We believe that in Syria, a victory of HTS will be a victory for Israel. Those seeing HTS as a force for good have learnt nothing from the collapse of Iraq or Lydia. How many times will we have to see this experiment repeated before we realise that US and Israel do not have in mind that what is beneficial for West Asia. Having said this, we agree with Professor Behlul’s approach of seeing geopolitics through the lens of Real Politic. States do not consider as a priority, that what is beneficial for the region, let alone the world. Rather states pursue their own narrow self-interest first and foremost. They then create moral narratives to give legitimacy to their policies. Unfortunately, it seems like things will get a lot worse before they get better. But we must not lose hope.

@@kianistanRegarding the guest's words, pointing out Israel as the great deal breaker instead of Ukraine, I think they are very accurate. I remember now something Netanyahu said. He promised Iran to attack them in a way that "they (Iranians) won't even know what happened, they will only see the consequences." It was assumed that he was referring to the October air raid. But could it actually refer to what is happening now? To Israel's role in a blow that has destroyed at light speed one of its main allies and also seems to intend to cut its shipments of weapons to another of them?
@kianistan
@kianistan 24 күн бұрын
@@manuelmanzanero5057 i think you have a good point. Although i am not yet decided who the main architect was of this whole scheme. No doubt Israel is the biggest winner. But e.g. according to Russian FM this was done not by Israel, but by USA to hurt Russia as a payback for what is going on in Ukraine. Regardless of who the mastermind was, the result is that USA/Israel/Turkey/Qatar/Jordon have dealt a severe blow to Russia/Iran/Hizbullah/Hammas. It’s very depressing. I hope to Interview Tim Anderson today. Hopefully that will get published tomorrow. Watch out for that as Tim is very knowledgable on the topic of Syria. No doubt he will be able to help unpack some of this. Thank you for your intelligent commentary.

@@kianistanOf course I'll watch the interview. I feel nothing but admiration for Tim Anderson since I read his essential book on Syria. That the "dirty war" has ended up taking this unexpected final turn, as a result of the coordination of so many different interests (USA, IL, Gulf petro‐kingdoms, Turkey and takfirist groups from various countries), makes it more necessary than ever to remember that book.
