If doing vertical shiplap and the tops are off like shown on the sides in your video how do you cover if adding a trim piece that aligns with the top? How can you avoid having to have each piece the exact same so the trim piece sits flush and no gaps are shown?

Protip. Cut the board desired size. Then glue the edgeband FIRST on ONE side then trim it before you go to the otherside. Last part is assembly. It will be a breeze

Love the video I did have a quick question about installing in a bathroom. I have been on the fence to use either pvc shiplap or mdf. So the area I want to shiplap is not directly next to the shower. The only way water could get to it would be from splashing from the vanity sinks. Let me know if mdf would still be ok if it is not directly next to the shower. Thanks guys
@DudeSawdust
@DudeSawdust Ай бұрын
The MDF will look great by the vanity sinks....until they don't. Over time you will regret it. I would go with PVC if you are dead set on ship lap right there adjacent to the countertop. Otherwise I would actually consider a different backsplash material above the sink all together and then shiplap above that. Consider a 6-8 inch tall stone. Shiplap down against the countertop is risky so if you give it a 6 inch gap above then you could fair much better.

@@DudeSawdust one more question would it be ok to use real shiplap in the bathroom vanity area but use a moisture resistant primer and paint? Or do you still think pvc is the way to go for the walls in the area? Thanks guys
@DudeSawdust
@DudeSawdust Ай бұрын
@jessemonfore7208 that’s a great question. Honestly, I would consider who is using the bathroom on the regular. If it was a responsible adult who cares about not splashing water then yes. Probably not in a kids bathroom. Others might disagree. It is water resistant and not water proof. I have never used them but know that it isn’t perfect.

Did you have to remove the baseboard on the adjacent wall and shorten it to make room for the new baseboard? And does the new baseboard match the baseboard on the adjacent wall or does it appear different (bigger)?

Thumbs down for a review for not knowing why one would use an orbital sander in the first place. It's a finishing sander so why would you use it on rough lumber. Also, the lower speeds are for other processes, not necesssarily sanding. As another commenter said below (above?), they use it for lime scale, presumably on tile.

I just bought it as part of a set and that bevel lever gave me so much trouble. At first it was tighten too much so I could move the lever. I entightened it a little to only realize that every time I would move it, the screw under would come lose. I found the trick though. You need to also screw the other screws around and it stays in place. There is a sweet spot to find. For such brand, they should have worked on a better system...

I bought this model sander from Amazon for like $55 last year and absolutely love it. For sanding I use 3M 710W and 775L paper in various grits, and have never had a problem with stock removal. I would say getting a couple of backup pads or pad savers is a smart investment, they have the same size/hole pattern pads for like 2 for $6, and they work wonders for preserving your actual sanding pad. Im on my 2nd pad since i bought it, but now use a pad saver everytime i touch the sander, so I dont anticipate having to change this pad again for years. The last couple months I've used it more for paint correction / detailing my car, using Meguiars Ultimate Compoud with a medium foam buffing pad on speed 5 does amazing work on any scratches/scuffs/imperfections. Follow up with 210 polish / sealant / wax and the car looks as good as any car I've ever seen before. Love this sander.

I am doing my first shiplap install at my home. We are tearing out old paneling beforehand. They are internal walls save for one. I'm going to redo the insulation on that one and add sound deadening in the other two. Do I need to do drywall first, or can I install the shiplap directly to the studs? Since one wall is exterior, I'm going to use wood instead of MDF.
