I grew up in Bulleen in 1984 , just finished my HSC at Marcellin College- your video details how I remembered Doncaster (Shopping town) and Box Hill. In fact, my first ever paid job was working at Doncaster cinemas! I was there for the opening- Mad Max 2 and Puberty Blues were the first movies shown there. Thanks for the memories!

Holy cow! What a gem of a home video! I was 19yo at the time and living in Blackburn, but you drove past Landale St in Box Hill Sth (just before turning into Canterbury Rd). We used to live down the end of that street (cnr Clydesdale St). Doncaster Shoppingtown & Box Hill were my go-to places. There's bugger-all traffic! Fun, carefree days when Melbourne was still marvellous. Oh, for a time-machine! *as a side note, I almost got busted by cops at the multi-storey Shoppingtown carpark with my girlfriend whilst 'parked' in my Mum's Datsun 1200 coupe! Good times.

This is really good. So precious to preserve memories of a better time in Melbourne. Unfortunately Melbourne doesn't look the same anymore. Box hill looks horrible now. So does Doncaster. I've lived in the Doncaster area for over 40 years and this is awesome to how the place was back then.👍🥰

School or community-based athletics were always a thing back in the 1980's or even the early 90's here?! I've always liked them and wanted to take part in them but I never could because I would tire out and cough when I tried to run. Only decades later did I find out that I suffered from Dyspnea which was unheard of back in that time...I still have it but am much more healthier and working on it constantly...Dyspnea was never known in that time sadly....

What’s interesting is that a lot has changed in Doncaster since then such as the cinema being rebuilt with a new multi story car park underneath it while there’s a Cole’s supermarket where Kmart used to be with a massive food court above it! Also this would of been before the 1988-1991 renovation of the shopping centre in Doncaster! :)

Went past where I was brought up. 512 Station Street,Box Hill. There was the infamous Greta's Milk Bar directly opposite us, and another one about 100m up on the same side of the road as us. Amazing to think there were two milk bars so close together.

Rats... I really wish you filmed the whole drive down Tram Road, over the old bridge, past the BMX track in Eram reserve, before that whole Eastern Freeway was made, and then up Station Street through Box Hill North to where you actually started filming Box Hill... I really would have loved to see that again before it all changed forever. Really pains me to think of what that whole area has become as it's really difficult to reminisce about the past when so few remnants of that past are still in existence. Still, it was great seeing the old Doncaster Shoppingtown that I grew up with again after so many years, so thank you very much for that!
@gavinthomas25727 жыл бұрын
Yeah unfortunately at the time of filming you are more likely to think that you might be filming too much. It was for some English family members at the time just to get a feel of the Australian suburbs and you are never anticipating watching it 30 odd years later.
