Looks sooo fun. What's the bottom end like on that 720s? Doesn't look like it's all that windy in your vid- how easy to get going? I'm 95kg, just got the 980S as my first code, stoked on it, its range... thinking about next one likely the 720S or maybe the 850s for higher wind, bigger conditions.

Hey Derek, looks like you may be on a different board now but I’m tossing up between the 85 or 95 Dyno v3, and would appreciate your thoughts. I’m 70-72kgs and mostly sail at McCrae cross on wind swell and would like to get into waves also. I have been on an old starboard 105 which I use in 18-25 and have a 135 for cruising and learning new moves. What is the wind range of the 85? And what sails would you mostly use. Thanks mate.

I was sitting on the point watching all this. 2 take aways 1 - The video does not show how high he was getting 2 - i was amazed how quick he went from cruising to fast to get ready to launch.

Looks like sanding and pricking the xps would probably give the best results based on your results. I'd try that next if you haven't already mate.

I shaped and glassed a prone foil board constructed of XPS (pink panther foam board from home depot). It lasted just 1 year until the deck started delaminating under my front foot. I had full deck traction pad. It seems all the front foot pumping pressure accelerated the delamination process. Oddly, the rear foot area didn't suffer any delamination. I have 2 vents installed and I always stored the board inside the garage. I used to drive a hatchback with the board inside the car, but recently I started going to the beach in my truck and the board would be in the bed. The drive is 30-60 minutes to the water, depending on which beach I go to. So the board would be exposed to direct sunlight during travel times. I suspect the additional heat could have played a small part but the board was always deck facing down. There was absolutely no delam on the bottom or anywhere else on the board.

@ming00n

Tried the Cabrinha H-Series, fast like the HPS and ART but better on a wave. H800 is a 10:1 AR like the 999 but feels smoother to me. Quite a few of us moved over from Axis but I still recommend Axis to beginners, cheap and a great range of foils.

@powis-tv8ln Жыл бұрын
@@ming00n Thanks that makes sense. Glad there wasn't something fundamentally wrong with the axis setup. I think I also saw you were riding the wing drifter at some point, as am I. I am finding it a bit sluggish to build planing speed, especially now with the foil way back in the tracks (in order to bring my stance back to where the footstrap holes are) for my 70kg.. hoping a negative shim on the stabilser can help me bring back some balance to the board.

How long does the battery typically last? My GoPro can handle a 2-3 hour session if I only record the waves I ride and then shut it off. Lately, it's been about 1-2 hour sessions since foil rides are so long... Most rides are 2-3 minutes so I figured the Go 2 wouldn't have enough battery...

Battery life is terrible compared to a GoPro. Leave it running continuously with image stabilisation add horizon lock and you’d be lucky to get 15 minutes.

I didn't see you dust of the 80grit. The dust could have caused the patches of bad adhesion. An 80 grid dust free surface combined with pin pricks woul be another interesting sample, I could imagine it beating all others.

@ming00n
@ming00n 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t personally but a few here do. Normal freeride fins don’t work very well as the box is too far back. Are you in Oz? Local guy makes a single fin that seems to work well, it’s set further forward and has a special section at the base that prevents spin out

I suspect that my helical gear shaft may be damaged, in your video, it comes out very easily when you pull out the gear. Do you know how you originally got it out, did you just have to apply a lot of force?
@vaniawiles8771

Same issue here. I actually managed to pull the blue part of the gear off, but the metal part remains stuck on the shaft and the shaft doesn’t get out even with repeated punches on the other side. Did you eventually manage to get the shaft out?
