All those white blokes. On the pitch I mean. Like a long-lost golden age. Nice to see the ball boy booting the ball back out of the net after a goal. Quality. Imagine that in the PL these days. He'd probably be arrested, if indeed it was a "he". They're probably called ball retrieval personnel nowadays.

One he11 of a stadium? This was 1985. The era of Bradford and Heysel. Eastville was no worse than most lower division stadiums back then.

Huh. I'm surprised Rik had already done Bottom by 1998, I swear that was an early 2000's thing. Bottom still feels like a kind of "new" show after Young One's and Statesman. Damn, showing my age much 😁

Was at the game at the Open End, the old clock end. Great game. Layer Road properly packed. Second half Archie Gemmill was properly chopped down in the U's penalty area. Should have been a pen, oh dear, never mind.

August 1980. The South Stand (the side facing the camera) was destroyed in a 'mystery blaze'. Rovers didn't own the stadium and their landlords (the greyhound racing company) wanted them out anyway (in 1986 they got their wish) so the stand was never rebuilt.

Brings back so many memories. Some nights at the County ground in Swindon. Roger used to have to commentate up some old scaffolding tower. And he used to take some real abuse especially when it was his team Bristol city. Good old days.
