You can see the pro-choice bias on the media side, just by the length of time they're giving Naomi wolf. William Buckley keeps cutting off Helen Alvare at every chance he gets!! .. Totally baised, just like the media is today. 😢😢😢

Neuhaus is extremely rude and abrasive. So amazing that a Catholic has such rigid beliefs on human sexuality and yet his church clergy is full of homosexuals who are active!

I once played (organ) at an adult confirmation service which Bishop Spong presided over. He was one of the most down to earth, kind, loving, and uplifting clerics I have ever met, and I have played in churches for 25 years.

Amazing to see this so many years later and know who was right and who was totally wrong. Buckley and the NR destroyed the real conservative movement.

I knew a man who became frustrated with his landlord. A fire broke out of an electrical nature. The source of the fire. Romex making contact with a nail causing the framing and plywood to ignite? The Television melted. The local college paper featured a front page photograph of the melted TV. Atop it was a copy of Bonfires of the Vanities. This tenant was an original customer of a coffee shop that became a franchise. Other original customer heard of his situation. Go Fund Me pages were not around them. Yet a placard was placed on a bank window appealing for funds for this man. The other original customers put up flyers with the pitch. "Let's keep this friendly face in the neighborhood." This episode of firing line evoked this recollection.

My great grandma was a suffragette c1905, her daughter my grandma was liberal-ish in the 1930s -1960s, yet she was Christian and disgusted with debauchery crap during the 1960s! Therefore, my great grandma, part of the original suffragette movement would never agree with Friedan and Burstein et al, and denounced the movement had she had foresight

It was all make-believe feel-good fantasy to begin with. There was no real commonality of interests, just a transactional relationship between the two groups in the aggregate. African-Americans accepted help from the one group willing to extend help, the Jewish groups felt an expansion of rights for any and all groups in the USA is a positive move and has some residual payoff for the situation of the Jewish people in America I rad the book a bunch of years ago. Interesting but limited and blinkered.

A superb & useful discussion between intellectually honest men, that appears now to have become disallowed. The precepts of Darwinism & logical positivism stand defeated, yet are still taught in our schools in deference to actual truths in both science & religion. A sad fact.

While AJ Ayers came to criticize logical positivism which he initially championed in his book Language, Truth and Logic "Darwinism" which is really just the observations that led to the concept of natural selection is still the foundation of modern biology and has never been "defeated"

When seeing Bishop Spong's debates and sermons on this very topic from recently, before he passed-- MY thought was the same as pastor Neuhaus': NOBODY CALLS BISHOP SPONG on his ANTI-TRADITIONAL DOCTRINE BIGOTRY. Because that's what it is. It is prejudiced. He always mentions "science" and "modern thought" and so on, when he dismisses traditional evangelical beliefs. ESPECIALLY if those beliefs are sincere and fundamental. That is, once one still believes in traditional Christian morality or the scriptures, that person is labeled ignorant or backward.
@edwardbaker1331 Жыл бұрын
Not only that. The definition of atheism is the belief that truth changes. Man creates no truth at all. All truth is the reflection of the unchanging mind of God. We can articulate truth and do so creatively, but we create none of it. God is not an idiot who deprived the peoples of the past adaquate knowledge of how to order their lives together morally.

Well he literally popularised the notion of limited government and I think there is a correlation between big spending governments and mass immigration; it’s an unscrupulous way of mitigating the damage that deficit spending can do. So in a way he did his bit . He’s the last person you should be using as a scapegoat.
@craigbrelsford4 ай бұрын
@@roughhabit9085A scapegoat is someone who takes all the blame. Buckley doesn’t deserve all the blame. But he knew Enoch Powell, knew Powell’s warnings on the perils of mass, uncontrolled immivasion. Buckley decided he’d rather sip Chardonnay than to stand with Powell and stand athwart the immivasion.

Pipes was certainly brilliant, but his writings and research were probably slanted due to personal experience with communism in Poland during his youth. He seems to focus on the influence of Soviet leaders and statesmen more than the social movements that resulted in these men assuming power. Nevertheless, a very knowledgable and articulate guest.
