Is that a washing machine or dishwasher in the background? It's actually very soothing! For the splattering, you can try tapping the handle against a finger of the other hand over your object. That knocks off the paint with fair control. Lovely video with great results.

You can use a toothbrush to do the flicking. I did that a lot on walls of my home.

When I’m cutting a narrow strip into strips I hold it in place with a sticky (Post-It) note.
