For additional boost to my stroganoff, I add a couple t-spoons of tomato powder, from dehydrated tomatoes that I ground up in the summer. Adds another layer of flavor without tasting tomato-y.

I add carrots to this meal
@elguicho9 Жыл бұрын
Also great way to do this meal. In a major food shortage situation, balance your meals by cutting back here or adding there. Tweak all these meals as you see fit. Most of my videos err on the side of "the minimum caloric intake" such that carrots are saved for another meal. But yep... undoubtedly good to add carrots. I like mushrooms in it too. But not for everyone's taste.

Any updates on the flashlight?
@elguicho92 жыл бұрын
I love it. It's compact. It's powered by 1 AAA battery which is the best feature. And it's a good mid level as far as brightness is concerned. There's not a huge difference between the high and low brightness settings, but enough to notice a difference. Whatever brightness setting it turns on to when I turn it on is usually what I stick with. It won't light up a whole room and it won't give you a discreet small brightness. But it's great for all the in-between stuff when you just need a flashlight. I actually really like it. Worth the money, does the job, compact, durable!

Here's an idea for you.. One I grew up on for tuna casserole. 2bxs mac and cheese. 1 can tuna drained. 1 can cream of mushroom soup. Cook and drain pasta. Add the tuna and cheese and mix. Add the cream of mushroom soup and season to taste with salt and pepper. Can add 1 Reg drained can of sweet peas and or 1 drained can of carrots. Just mix them in.

@@elguicho9 here's one that there's 2 versions of.. Corn beef hash. 1 can corn beef broken up in skillet small pcs.3 cans diced potatoes minced onion flakes and powder. Just enough water to cover the ingredients. Cook over medium heat.. Stirring occasionally until it cooks down and thickens a bit. Turn off heat and season with salt and pepper to taste. The next one is exactly the same except you put it in a Dutch and add water to fill pan 2/3 full.. Boil until hot. Turn off heat and season with salt and pepper to taste.. This is a soup and I serve it with cornbread.. You could even use Jiffy mix for that.

Please, explain the pumpkin and jiffy cornbread better. I tried to google search and there was nothing on the web that used just those ingredients and I have no idea on the time or temp for cooking it. Thank you.

Sure. Think bread pudding consistency. Kind of a thick, moist substance. Thicker than mashed potatoes. The longer you cook it, the closer to cornbread it comes out. I have cooked as quickly as about 10 or 15 minutes and it was a bit wetter, or as much as about 20 minutes and it was a bit denser/ dryer. I cook it on medium heat. Experiment. Try it wet, try it dry. I cooked in restaurants and on my own my whole life. I have always been a bit of an eyeballer. Hope that helps.

Also, I have a video on that dish where you can actually watch me cook it and see the consistency. I serve it with spam and a can of veggies for a complete meal.

I just wanna let you know that this is the smartest pepper shelf stable food video that I’ve seen so far. Everybody else cooks theirs and to me that’s a waste of their preps. I guess if that’s what you’re gonna have to be lunch or supper that’s great because then they didn’t waste it.

The Dinty Moore has it's place. You can eat it out of the can and be satiated and nourished. The homemade is a better quality. Sodium is also an issue when most, if not all, of your food is processed.
@shirleyshirley41882 жыл бұрын
You can also put any flavor pie filling in the bottom of a cake pan and pour prepared cake mix, or muffin mix, on top. Bake and it's a calorie dense treat with fruit. My fav is blueberry pie filling and a pouch of Martha White blueberry cheesecake muffin mix. All you need to add is 1/2 cup milk (powdered is as good) to the muffin mix. Angle food cake is also good because all you need is water. I add chocolate chips.

I think the quality of the shelf-stable stew would be a cut above Dinty Moore. The Keystone beef is very delicious. the Dinty Moore has no peas, just potatoes and carrots. I think stew needs something green, either peas or green beans. Dinty Moore is a bit pricey for what you get. I have eaten it, but it is nothing to write home about for sure.

He's been wanting to buy the pie filling for a long time we had no idea what to do with it. We have everything else in the house that you showed desserts are probably the one thing we were missing. Would you still add both cans to the one packet of jello would you cut back on the quantity of that as well. Thank you for posting these videos we subscribed

@@tinatacklesit1448 I have a bout 5 places I store food. 1. A working pantry. 2. An overflow tub for that pantry. 3. A Long term area. 4. a 2nd long term area. 5. A 3rd long term area. For similar reasons as you. No one area is big enough for everything. So each area has stuff organized by date and when something runs out in the working area, I only have to go to one spot to refill it. Then at grocery day I restock only the long term areas and rotate new stuff to the back. Not sure if that helps.

A bit of a quicker version of beef stroganoff would be to use the beef you did, 2 package of brown gravy mix made with shelf-stable milk and the canned mushrooms. To this, one can add sour cream for a stroganoff if you have some.
@barbarafowler65812 жыл бұрын
I would add in some sour cream and some French Fried Onions on top and serve with peas and cranberry sauce. I do this combo when I make beef stroganoff. I know the sour cream is not shelf stable, but it sure makes a difference.

It's good. It would more than get you buy in a supply shortage. However, most people will surely add their own touch. Experiment with shelf stable seasonings. Experiment with the amount or different types of thickeners. And yeah...hatch chili's would be a great addition as well. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Do keep your foods in a cool place? Where should we store them to keep them fresh?
@elguicho92 жыл бұрын
Basement temp. Cool and dry. Also, away from constant light. Though light doesn't matter too much in metal cans.
@susanserafini46832 жыл бұрын
Could you add some chili seasoning or a packet of white bean chili seasoning to make it more chili tasting? I buy lots of the store brand seasoning packets when they are on sale, 3 for $1, etc. and keep them with my shelf stable stash so it's quick to season different recipes. I.e., brown gravy, chix gravy, reg. chili seasoning, white bean chix chili, taco seasoning, etc. This recipe looks yummy!👍
@elguicho92 жыл бұрын
Of course! That all works. The idea with most of these is for survival. Generally you won't be too picky when you are starving. But absolutely, experiment with your favorite seasonings. Everyone should put their own flare into them. They say...stock what your family eats. And if you typically would add those seasonings to a pot with fresh ingredients, it usually means you can do the same to this variety.

Depends on what you like. The Dinte Moore is saltier and thicker. But you could work on the thickening of the stew with experimentation. The Dinte Moore is like gravy with a few chunks in it. My stew has way more stuff in it. Both taste just fine. Mine is more like homemade.
