Only Gene Krupa and Neil Pearl came close but Buddy Rich is still the best…..

Rich is being disingenuous. There are a number of videos showing him playing with a matched grip.

I find it so bizarre that such a brilliant elite musician would be so limited in perspective / closed minded to choose to die on the hill 9f traditional grip vs matched grip. What would Buddy think of Carter Beauford? Matched grip and OPEN HANDED!! By Buddy's standards he is "doing it wrong" but Carter s a fucking BEAST, super creative, very very free and innovative. If it works it is right. If it sounds good it is right.

He was fantastic , but you need to remember the era he was playing and as a jazz drummer he gets a pass for stubbornness over style. Listen to more than just this simple clip. Look into his history, his longevity sitting behind a kit. .

Never thought he was that good. Been a drummer for over 50 years now and his stuff has always been fair IMO at best. When he dissed John Bonham as a drummer and further said John had no, " swing " I knew Baker was an idiot and lost respect for him.

Guess Mitch was a huge Jagger fan since his bass drum says, " Mick "...unless he failed spelling in school.

I have a theory from this time- that in a three-piece group, the drummer needs to be the best musician. Hence, 'Cream', 'The Police', 'Nirvana', and all of the others that have faded into oblivion. I'm not sure if it applies to "The Jiimi Hendrix Experience", though????

@@dbell8551You are correct on the "Terminology!" However, Shea Stadium is a smaller Baseball Field and the term, "Stadiums" is synonymous with Football Fields that seats a larger Audience attending to see a Concert! So, were both in the same, "ball park" for a pun!
