Now if I wrote that scene, the moment he said “ you are all astronauts on some kind of Star Trek” I would’ve made Riker say : “ We are not exactly exactly Star Trek astronauts.. We are more the next generation of them!”

Funny as hell alternate ending.... LOL. But, in truth, closer to how humans really behave.

With all of his contributions, it makes me wonder why there was never a USS Cochrane in the fleet. You'd think with all that he did, the least he could get is a ship named after him. I guess he wasn't as important as they made him out to be.
@Mulder49520 күн бұрын
There is a U.S.S. Cochrane; NCC 59318.
@RumbleFish6920 күн бұрын
@Mulder495 You're right, but what shows up, in my opinion, is far worse than if they hadn't had a USS Chocrane ship at all. On the official list of Federation ships, it shows up twice, which is weird. One vessel has zero distinction or information, and the other is an Oberth Class vessel, which is a civilian operated vessel. Obviously, it was just a canonical creation and addition, which was only included for lore. And yeah, this inclusion is worse than if they didn't have a vessel named after Chocrane! An oberth class? That ship is a slap in the face to the man who started it all! Did you hear what Riker said? None of it, would be possible without Chocrane, but he gets an Oberth Class vessel? With everything that Riker said, the USS Chocrane should have been, at the very least, a Constitution Class vessel with tremendous notoriety, and adventures, under its operation. The USS Chocrane should have been featured prominently in movies and TV shows, but it's nowhere to be found in any movie or TV show, which makes my original statement true. Plus, after Riker's talk up, you'd think that a ship bearing that name would not be some random one-off, fan-service side reference on some list that no one ever looks at. Yeah, my original statement loses no traction. These obscure mentions on this "official" list mean absolutely nothing. I say all this respectfully, of course. And, I do thank you for pointing out that this ship, or these ships, on the list.

(Cochrane chucks) Cochrane: (talking to Riker) Let me just make sure 👍 that I understand you correctly, Commander. A group of cybernetic creatures from the future have travel 🧭 back through time to enslave the human race, and you’re here to 🛑 stop them? Riker: (answers to Cochrane) That’s right. Cochrane: Hot 🥵 🦫 damn. You’re 🦸♂️ heroic. (Laughs) Riker: We’re gonna prove it to you. (He turns and talks to Geordi) Geordi! (Geordi sees the ENTERPRISE on Cochrane’s telescope 🔭) Geordi: There she is! Beautiful 🤩! (Closes his tricorder; he talks to Cochrane) All right, take a look 👀. (Cochrane walks over and take a look 👀 see of the ENTERPRISE on his telescope 🔭) Cochrane: Well, well, well. What have we got here? (Chucks) Well, I love ❤️ a good 👍 👀 peepshow. (The ENTERPRISE is up ⬆️ in the sky 🌌; Cochrane sees it on his telescope 🔭; a dog 🐕 barking in a distance; Cochrane looks back at Riker, Geordi and Deanna and chuckles 🤭) Cochrane: That’s a trick. (Chucks) How’d you do that? Geordi: It’s your telescope 🔭. Deanna: (talks, answers to Cochrane) That’s our ship 🚢, the ENTERPRISE. (Cochrane takes a look 👀 again on his telescope 🔭) Cochrane: And, uh 🙄, Lily’s up ⬆️ there right now? Deanna: That’s right. Cochrane: Can I talk to her? Riker: We’ve lost 😡 contact with the ENTERPRISE. We don’t know why yet. (Cochrane thinks fast 💨) Cochrane: So…what is it that you want me to do? Riker: Simple: Conduct your warp flight ✈️ tomorrow morning just as you plan. Cochrane: Why tomorrow morning? (Deanna and Geordi look 👀 around Riker) Riker: Because at 11:00 🕚, an alien 👽 ship 🛳️ will get passed through this Solar System. Cochrane: Aliens 👽? You mean 😢, extraterrestrials 👽? More bad 👎 guys? (Cochrane sits down on a bench) Deanna: Good 👍 guys. They’re on a severe mission. They have no interest in Earth 🌎. Too primitive. Cochrane: Oh. (Riker walks over to Cochrane) Riker: Doctor 👨⚕️, tomorrow morning when they detect the warp signature from your ship 🚢 and realize that humans have discovered how to travel 🧳 🧭 faster than light 💡, they decide to alter their course and make First Contact with Earth 🌎 right here. Cochrane: Here? Geordi: Uh 🙄, actually, over there.👉 Riker: It is one 1️⃣ of the pivotal moments in human history, Doctor 👨⚕️. You get to make First Contact with an alien 👾 race; and after you do, everything begins to change. Geordi: Your theories on warp drive allow fleet of ⭐️ starships to be built; and mankind will start exploring the galaxy 🌌. Deanna: It unites humanity in the way that no 👎 one 1️⃣ ever thought 💭 possible when they realize they’re not alone in the universe. Probity, disease 🦠, war, they’ll all be gone within the next 50 years. (Riker is standing right behind Cochrane) Riker: But unless you make that warp flight ✈️ tomorrow morning before 11:15, none of it will happen. Cochrane: And you people, you’re all…astronauts on…some kind of star ⭐️ trek. Geordi: Look 👀, 👨⚕️ Doc, I know this is a lot for you to take in, but we’re running 🏃♂️ out of time ⌛️ here, and we need your help. Riker: What do you say? (Cochrane stands up ⬆️ and takes a second to answer) Cochrane: Why not? Before the end of the movie 🍿, did he just killed a Vulcan 🖖?

It's like we're stuck in some crazy in between where we don't know what to do with ourselves and the frivolous things of the past are now boring us. Time for that next big thing me thinks but no more of the novelty frivolous things.

Star Trek Next Generation, like the original Star Trek, followed Modernist ideas from the Enlightenment: humans are rational, and the human race improves itself by its own efforts. That is why I liked Battlestar Galactica, the 2000s reboot. BSG was post-modern; at times you wanted to root for the Cylons over the disordered human race.

I like to think Cochrane almost immediately understood the significance of the Enterprise when he saw her through the telescope. It could have been anything...except he saw his own warp theory and design in the ship, even though it was 300 years ahead. Federation ships still have the classic human warp assembly and hull arrangement he pioneered right from the beginning. Of course, that ending though. I guess he wanted it much sooner in this timeline, heh.
