Hola.

My name is Sylvain Sybaris. I have been a drifter for over 30+ years traveling the country alone through 48 states living on the road (highways, byways, country roads & dirt roads) living in my modified travel van or at tent campsites... I hunt, fish & forage for plants, but mostly, I get food from local Food Banks & churches... I can't comprehend traveling with others because I favor traveling alone due to my lack of trust in humanity as I have been swindled, robbed & assaulted by people my entire life, so I'm compelled to remain in solitude ... I would say my way of life is rare, but I have met many people in similar ways of living as a drifter, but most homeless people I met prefer to remain in one place, where as some drift from town to town & state to state, like I do.--- Watching this video makes me wonder that there are some good people in this country that enjoy being around others.

lovely indeed. the most beautiful though is that... our history is full of moments like this, lost to the sands of time. so i do thank you for perserving this moment. a reminder of times we lived. if you were to add the words "Somewhere over the rainbow cowboy campfire harmonica" to this.. im pretty sure it would have more than 20 likes. i loved it. there is no love button on youtube. id pay a nickle to click a love button here. but google are cowards and wont accept opposition.

You probably get asked this all the time but where do you find your period correct clothing and hats . Do you make you own clothing ? Can't find anyone who sells hats correct for that era . Also are your saddles specially made too or are modern american saddles still fairly close in design to one's used back in the day .

I don't know if you monitor this site any longer but if you do can you tell me who made the saddle that is on the sorrel horse at 2:57? Can you recommend any saddle makers that are currently making period specific saddles such as the santa fe saddle? Lastly, are you still participating in these mountain man rides? Thank you
@raulcarlos16155 ай бұрын
Hello there, I hope you found a saddle maker to build the saddle of your dreams but if not Sawtooth Saddlery did make the Santa Fe saddle. They're beautiful but more ornate than what I was looking for. I took a picture of a Santa Fe saddle and made a wish list of what I wanted, then contacted a saddle maker in Texas. I opted for a Visalia 3B slick fork rawhide tree with semi-quarter horse bars, 5 inch cantle without handholds, dove tail skirts, and a half seat. It is 7/8 double rigged and has metal spots around the leather and around the conchos on the fork. I live near La Purisima Mission in CA and the leather shop has several saddles in various stages of build, it seems they did not use fenders so I had mine built without fenders. I had another saddle maker add rings for a crupper and I am planning on carving wood stirrups out of Black Walnut. Frederick Ruxton wrote of Bill Williams as having his feet in "wooden stirrups as big as coal scuttles", this is the same type of stirrup used in "The Mountain Men", when Joe Walker rode up to Bill Tyler and Frappe. The Mission staff let me trace a pattern from 3 different stirrups. I put this description of my saddle as it is period correct other than the rigging, which was center fire vs double rigged, and would be great for those interested in Mountain Man, Soldados De Cuero, or the Californio Vaquero periods. Again, I hope you were successful in having your saddle built, but if you or anyone else is interested, I hope this helps as an experienced saddle maker can build this per your instructions. Edit: I forgot to mention if anyone is interested in Tapaderos, it seems two types were used, Eagle Bill style and a circular one of 3 pieces of leather with the smallest over the medium, stitched over the largest which was tied to the stirrup, and while I am not positive about the circular style, it looks really good with the wood block style stirrups and weighs much less than other tapadero styles. My saddle is very light and weighs about 18 pounds
