Gee, i don't know that a lyre harp for left handed people exists and that's actually the type I own when I am actually right-handed ...😅 I guess I just got used to it... Perhaps that is the reason why i cannot be precise with the right strings most of the time because I am using my non dominant hand. But oh well, as long as I can play some decent tune, I'm fine with that.😅 Thanks so much for this information 😊.
@joancollins34573 күн бұрын
I’m tuning correctly, however I’m very unsure on one of your tutorial songs I’m trying to play. What are the little 1’s next to the notes? Do they stand for a higher pitch towards # as I noticed you tuned your G4 to G#? I’m really new at any instrument and when I play it sounds off.
@SamanthaonMars3 күн бұрын
Hello, do you mean an apostrophe ( ' ) or comma ( , ) next to the notes? Since notes repeat themselves in the cycle of CDEFGAB, there can be multiple strings with the same letter note on a lyre. To distinguish which one to play, I use these little marks. An apostrophe ( ' ) represents a higher pitched note, a comma ( , ) a lower pitch, and no punctuations means in the middle. So, all the notes (from low pitch to high pitch) on a typical 16-string lyre are represented like this: G, A, B, C D E F G A B C' D' E' F' G' A' G3 A3 B3 C4 D4 E4 F4 G4 A4 B4 C5 D5 E5 F5 G5 A5 The numbers are the octave numbers, another way to represent the pitch. Sharps and flats would be presented the same as standard music notation which are ( # ) and ( b ) respectively.

@@SamanthaonMars thank you! I thought so, I can’t seem to get mine to sound quite right. My A B C’ sound wrong for some reason. I will try and retune again and see where I’m at with it. Thank you for replying and clarifying. I love your tutorials and your playing. :)

This melody sounds lyrical, but also quietly monumental in a way. I know it is a contradiction, but that's how it feels, majestic but subdued. I love the background as well, with a bird flying by 🥰 Your newest lyre, the one with elvish leaves you designed yourself would suit here, but I guess it lacks the range? Also, I don't see the object to click on to get to the playlist - maybe it is only my browser, just saying in case you want to test it.

PS never mind, it is just Safari on my tablet, on Firefox it looks flawlessly 😀

@GuardianAngelEatos7 күн бұрын
Parts of this don't sound right. I think you're missing a few notes.
@SamanthaonMars6 күн бұрын
This is a diatonic lyre, which is not designed for playing sharps and flats, explaining the difference. I'm demonstrating how to play the melody on a limited, diatonic instrument. For an exact match to the original melody, a chromatic instrument would be more suitable.
@GuardianAngelEatos6 күн бұрын
@@SamanthaonMars Oh! Okay. Thank you for the explanation. That explains it.
@SamanthaonMars6 күн бұрын
@@GuardianAngelEatos You're welcome. 😃This song still works well after changing some notes to fit the diatonic scale. Unfortunately, many pieces, especially classical music, is not suited on a diatonic lyre.

What do the little “ ‘ “ on some of the notes? Like in 0:13 there’s a two string part like (D’-B). I have no clue what the little thing on the D means. I’m wanting to get a Lyre, so having this answered would really help! Btw it sound beautiful ❤
@SamanthaonMars7 күн бұрын
An apostrophe means the note is in a higher octave (i.e. higher pitch). On the contrary, a comma would mean the note is in a lower octave (i.e. lower pitch). Notes repeat themselves and it's my way of indicating which one to play.
@Jbaites-u5z7 күн бұрын
Do some notes repeat on the lyre in different octaves, and the apostrophe means do the higher octave one?

This is so cool your videos are helping me learn my first songs on the lyre. But I am curious what it means when you show the little box that slides from high D to middle D. I can’t really hear anything that would indicate a slide. I’m confused.
@SamanthaonMars7 күн бұрын
The pop-up box shows me playing all the strings from high D to middle D (inclusive, 8 strings in total) in a quick sweeping motion. This part is played in addition to the melody, which means the two overlap, so it needs to be played by another person or by me with the two videos layered on top of each other.
