They come to bits a lot quicker than building them! I'd keep everything built forever given sufficient space and parts, but I have neither, so this is a necessary part of the hobby, and it is enjoyable in it's own right.
@meccanoman4 ай бұрын
That's for sure. There's a few that I refuse to take apart. I have lucked out as far as space goes and I'm gonna try and shift my focus this year to filling my book shelves up in the living room. I don't have enough books to fill it so it will have to be Meccano.
@gingerfairybroadcasting36204 ай бұрын
I agree with John, building and filming the way I do, it's built and taken to bits in one day, so I never have a stock pile of models. However I have been working on a set ten project for a few years in Red and Green, and those models will take a lot longer to build and take to bits afterwards. Great video though.
@meccanoman4 ай бұрын
My display shelves have a lot more room now, but there's definitely a few ones I consider to be my permanent models. Looking forward to seeing the set ten project.
@johnmeccanitian4 ай бұрын
Thanks Meccano Man for this video. Some Meccano builders find the disassembly of models to be a tedious part of the hobby. In think, disassembly is often meditative and inspiring. I often get bored with my old Meccano model that has been on the shelf for months or even years. When I take it apart, it's exciting to think about future projects and the parts that will become available for building them.

For sure, it's like Rolex or Lexus, it costs more because it costs more to make. If Meccano started remaking the old parts again, out of metal, I guarantee they would sell.

Always, that saved me a lot of space. This was one of those videos where I lost more than half of the footage and had to cobble together what I had. I deleted some of the final shots of everything squared away. Trust me, it's growing, I've added even more parts since this.
@telepresence9 ай бұрын
Great video. As someone just starting out with building ideas but no parts, where would you recommend getting a general collection of parts? Are there any vintage sets that were fairly generic? I see the value of this site for finding specific parts but building up a general collection this way could get very expensive. Any advice?
@meccanoman9 ай бұрын
Meccano is best found second hand. Building a collection with individual pieces one by one would be expensive, however I certainly value this website for specific projects and particular components. They do have sets section available to start you off. The stellar thing about Meccano is all the parts are interchangeable and more-less generic on their own. Check out some thrift shops and online classifieds listings. If you're feeling bold go drop a grand or two on meccanoman.co.uk/catalog/
