We live in Stafford and have been following for a few years now. I keep telling myself that as soon as the pandemic is under control, we are coming to visit for the day. It looks like a marvelous place to visit! And I like the new name. Keep up the good work.

I have lived in the Katy area all my life and moved to what I call old town Katy in 1982. I used to be so excited for winter to come so I could see and hear all of the geese fly over. But not anymore. I still live in the same house and I haven't seen or heard any in years. I hope we don't give up on Katy. We really don't need anymore furniture stores or subdivisions to take over what is left. So sad.

Great dam video (ugh sorry). I never thought about how a beaver dam would separate a stream into two separate ecosystems with the different water speeds but that’s really cool

I loved this easy to follow video. Great tip to put the taller plants on the interior of the bed. After our Houston freeze, I cannot wait to "start over" on a certain area of my yard that I have longed to recreate. Thank you KPC for the tips.

I'm so glad I found this video! Believe it or not, I am actually one of the kids in the video. My dad is the one speaking and my brother and I are the ones in the background footage. I still remember that day vividly and I am so grateful the Katy Prairie Conservancy wanted to interview us. Keep up the amazing work! :D

Hello, Thanks for this video . I was researching a place to go near Katy for bird photography. I ventured out this morning and reached the field office in Indian grass ( I guess that is the name). But the gate was closed and the phone was unanswered. I would greatly appreciate if you could share what is the place I can go for bird watching. An address or gps coordinates or directions will help. I am glad that we have so much of nature close by.

KPC's wildlife viewing platform at 15000 Warren Ranch Road, Hockley is open every day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (spring and summer hours) and from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (fall and winter). The Ann Hamilton Trail at KPC's Indiangrass Preserve (31975 Hebert Road, Waller, Texas) is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. Go to katyprairie.org for more information on events and ways to enjoy the prairie as well as directions to KPC's public sites.

Nice video! I hope y'all start to include the names of plant species you showcase in short videos like this. The first flower shown is absolutely fascinating, but I haven't a clue what it is!
@irispoteet12102 жыл бұрын
Three species here. The little purple pineapple is Eryngo leavenworthii. The frilly pink-lavender flower is American basketflower and the yellow flowers are common sunflower. Thanks for watching!

Pretty solid video! I really appreciate the message of conservation, but y'all failed to mention what needs to be saved. For instance, not mentioning the Attwater's prairie chicken is a complete failure. Trading some of the "relatable family content" for genuine information (what is a prairie grass? what are those pretty wildflowers? How much coastal prairie remains?) will probably prove to be more rewarding, for both views and visitors.

I thought you would want to mow first so that the new grass coming up isn't shaded by the tall old grass? Is there a reason NOT to mow first?

Jaime, as usual, logically presented and clearly stated. Your reasons for planting natives are basically value points for using natives in our modern society equally applicable if restoring habitats or just populating personal gardens. I particularly like your rationale as it would apply to how NOT to create a Panda habitat. Sustaining native plants and wildlife need to be considered together, as this is how they evolved for 10's of thousands of years. I've posted your video to the NPSOT_HOU Facebook page and added it our Chapter's KZbin Channel video archive, too. Many thanks for taking the time to make this video.

Very disheartening and grim picture of how development has ruined the Katy Prairie throughout recent history, which makes me even more thankful that some of the Katy Prairie is protected forever. I hope the 50,000 acre mark is reached someday.
