On the concept 300 series dual disc, can I use my factory flywheel and oem style slave cylinder on my 2007 mustang GT?

Is common after having a shop replace a clutch assembly and flywheel for their to be scraping noise when the clutch is engaged?
@Olds_Pwr4 ай бұрын
No. I would take it back and ask them what is going on.
@Wes_5kyph14 ай бұрын
@@Olds_Pwr So, I did and was told, "Well, if I knew your transmission was that bad I would've told you to replace the transmission to begin with." So, I think after the new clean clutch and flywheel assembly were installed, it enhanced and made noises that were already there (from bad bearings in the transmission) more obvious. So, now I've now ordered a new transmission (current one has 300k miles, so I guess that makes sense). Hopefully whenever the new transmission arrives it will fix the noise issue(s) before this current one goes completely dead. After driving it more, the noise has become more "clicking" stopped in neutral, and clattering at 2.5-3k+ rpm's in lower gears. There's no apparent drivability/performance issues, no shifting issues - just noise. Hopefully it will hold out! Thanks for the response!

I run a ram aluminum flywheel on the street and yes you have to be an artist to drive it but it was the best investment in my vett and i highly recommend it life at the Bloody knuckle garage

I’m going with composite steel and aluminum. The clutch is a composite as well. My logic, I don’t know dick about cars so I go in between.

I know you don't want to give out every trade secret, but I was honestly hoping to see how the flywheel is created from the billet stage forward. I recognize the polishing compound, but what are you quenching (if you will) the parts in? Is that a corrosion preventive substance, or a solvent like mineral spirit?

So I have been running the RAM conversion on my modified LT4 for about 2 years now. The noise at idle is subdued if you purchase a shim from the ZF Doc Bill B. The noise is from the elimination of the dual mass flywheel and not the RAM conversion itself. The transmission gears cause this noise and it was eliminated by the use of the DMF. The gear noise is not harmful to the transmission or clutch assembly it is just annoying as hell. The shim will definitely quiet the noise down but don't expect it to be as quiet as stock either. I did not drill a hole in my bell housing as was instructed by RAM for the installation of the hydraulic throw out bearing. I instead installed the transmission slowly and guided the new hydraulic throw out bearing with my fingers and double checked alignment with a borescope camera. Tip using a steel input shaft works best! I also purchased the 900 series disk sintered iron with the steel flywheel. This clutch grabs hard but has some chatter from a dead stop. You can sometimes bypass the chatter if you take off at low rpms just off idle or on the opposite end drop the clutch (not something I like to do). The 300 series clutch is much more street friendly like stock!! Just an FYI about changing out a clutch on a ZF tranny C4, I've done it two times in a row! My stock clutch (I purchased the car new so it has my use/abuse) wore very unevenly, I have driven manuals for many years so this is not my driving style that caused premature clutch wear. I converted to a new Spec single mass flywheel (my stock DMF had too much play), new stock pressure plate that was measured/machined by ZF Doc, new stock type sprung disk , new stock TO bearing, etc. This second setup slipped from day one and just kept getting worse. I had to pull it with just 700 miles on it! Now that was a pain in the butt and a lot of money out the window. So to me the RAM conversion is the way I should have gone and it is way better than the stock pull type setup. With the RAM conversion you eliminate the clutch fork, the wear prone ball stud, the hydraulic slave cylinder and the imported throw out bearing. You keep the clutch master cylinder and bleeding is way easier to do than the stock setup. I am not sure why GM did the pull type pressure plate other than for packaging constraints. It certainly does not wear well at least in my case and other friends clutches that I have witnessed on other C4 Vettes. Also RAM is very helpful in the selection of the clutch and flywheel as well as answering any questions. I am in no way affiliated with RAM at all. I do appreciate the fact that RAM makes a quality product for our old C4 Vettes when everyone else is either making off shore junk or they stop producing parts all together.

I appreciate this tech support being available. I'm going to try a RAM 78125HD and needed to know if a Tilton 75-750U would be a good match. It appears to be right on the money with a 3/4" bore and a 1.1" stroke.

I’m just blowed away by Ram clutches lol. Sent me their HD clutch good for 600 HP but the pressure plate was junk. It was the same pressure plate used for like a 4.0 Jeep. I’m serious, you can’t make this shit up.

I have the RAM clutches aluminum flywheel in my manual 392 hemi challenger, I think it’s about 4.5 to 5 lbs lighter than the stock steel one. It’s been great so far, don’t have any lugging at low speeds in first gear and the engine revs up much quicker. It went from feeling like a heavy engine to feeling more like a light engine if that makes any sense. Acceleration definitely feels quicker vs the stock steel flywheel

This brings me a lot of hope. As I have been through a whirlwind of trying setups for this ZF after my DM FW went out. Does this kit reduce some of the gear noise from a single mass FW conversion with the pull style pressure plate?
