Well, if you wanna go home every weekend and let’s just say you live in southern Louisiana they’re not gonna send you to Maine or North Dakota but if you decide that you want to run for the week and not go home for the weekend, then you can go dang near everywhere. West is very rare.

As a new driver to flatbed, plus I have a bad back & knees, im over weight, not very active (extremely lazy), AND a chain smoker, im not looking forward to having to fold these. 80,000 lb lumber loads requiring 2 lumber tarps per load, 2-3 times a week for the foreseeable future, this is going to kill me
@whitecollartrucker29 күн бұрын
Yikes! Tough times ahead! Hang in there big buddy! Take your time and please don’t die!
@jeffreycairns76729 күн бұрын
@whitecollartrucker I appreciate the kind words and I'll do my best, lol. I'm from Ontario, Canada and will be running quad axle trailers of lumber to Northern parts of Ontario & Quebec. Tarping, from what I've been told, is mostly in the winter months due to the salt and grime on the roads. I've pulled heavy loads many times in my 20+ years of driving as well as driven North. I just haven't run heavy flatbed loads up there, especially in the winter. They can get a couple of feet of snow in any given day, so the roads are gonna SUCK!!! There's also wild life year round and the highway is mostly 2 lanes (1 in each direction) and have very little civilization between small towns. Not to mention the hills. It'll definitely be interesting. If tarping doesn't kill me, the roads and wild life might. I'll just do my best

They have tons to pay for new trucks, office employee salaries, fuel, truck insurance, building insurance and probably so so much more I can’t think of right now. So when I get dispatched a load. Yes sir we sure do hire in the Houston area. Since you’re experience driver, you have the option to do two weeks of flatbed training with your trainer or three weeks. I would recommend three weeks to get 15 loads of securement training. As opposed to only 10 loads of securement training with two weeks. When you're empty, do you always get a choice of loads?
@whitecollartruckerАй бұрын
No, we don’t always get options. Most of the time we just get dispatched they don’t want to give load options especially the new drivers because maybe the best paying load is not always the best paying load because it could put you in a bad area and worst case put you in an area where you might be able to get home

TMC looks like a good place to go. I saw that they don't have APUs however. Do you generally just have to idle overnight to keep cool when you are staying in really hot climates? Is there any way to run a TV, xbox etc without idling?
@whitecollartruckerАй бұрын
Yes, we have inverters that you are able to have your TV and Xbox/PlayStation playing without the truck idling. You are able to idle while in very hot weather, but TMC does frown upon it and it does affect your MPG’s negatively which could affect your percentage pay.

I heard TMC will not provide microwave or a fridge , but they put a satellite tv in the truck. The first two are essential , satellite tv is not, and don’t cost a ton of money but they will not provide them. Also, they don’t provide APUs …. A shame! The recruiter lied to me and told me they do!I could care less about their satellite tv. How do you supposed to sleep if there is 100F outside ? Means inside it will be 120F. Or how about -20F in Canada? It just doesn’t make sense to me! I have signed up for their training program but the more information I get about them, the less motivation I have to move forward with them.
@whitecollartrucker3 ай бұрын
We do have bunk heaters in the truck. You can survive out here without a refrigerator and a microwave. Microwaves are very inexpensive at Walmart. If you want to get one I do have one myself. And I do have a cooler to keep waters cold. I do not have a refrigerator. I do not need one cooler works just fine. You are allowed to idle your truck when necessary. It is frowned upon and will affect your MPG which could affect your percentage pay. Last I heard the satellite TV is no longer an option. A lot of the newer trucks have smart TVs. I use my Amazon fire stick.

@@whitecollartrucker Thank you for your answer! I see, I guess I had too big of an explanations for TMC and I’m sure they are a still a good company to work for. And I have one more question if you don’t mind me asking : When you go home for either your 34 reset or just in general, where do you park your truck? Can you take your tractor to your house and leave the trailer at the terminal or they both need to be left at the terminal ? If that’s the case, it will be a deal breaker for me as the closest TMC terminal for me is 4 hours away
@whitecollartrucker3 ай бұрын
@@Lovetrucking no problem! When you go home, you will take your truck and trailer with you. You will need to find a truckstop or a big lot or big parking lot where you could park it near your house. You could also try to get permission at a Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s or Menards. The parking lot where I’m gonna be parking for the weekend. You’ll go home with the load on Friday and to be successful at TMC. I highly recommend you parking up Sunday nights which means you get to the receiver of that load Sunday night by 9 PM.
