I gotta ask I’m genuinely curious I suppose. The kayaks are nice and sorta small but to have a boat that you can stand up in would seem so much better and more versatile. I guess I just don’t understand the popularity of the kayaks. It seems small boats would be about as much hassle yet with tons more advantage and utility. I’m not acting like I’m an authority btw just curious
@SouthwestKayakFishing
@SouthwestKayakFishing Жыл бұрын
Well there are lots of reasons people enjoy kayak fishing and there are lots of practical reasons for having one. Storage space, rental cost for storage, and transportation play a big role for owning either a boat or kayak. Some advantages to owning a kayak is being on the water having peace and quiet instead of having to listen to an engine. Another is being able to get into places a boat can’t such as a kelp bed. Generally speaking kayaks are less expensive to buy and maintain than motorized boats. A few disadvantages are limited deck space and storage. Another would be the distance that you could cover. I’m sure there are another million pros and cons depending on who you talk to.
@bluedoggum8373
@bluedoggum8373 Жыл бұрын
@@SouthwestKayakFishing yeah. I may have to try one some day. I have a small inflatable boat and it isn’t perfect either. The only thing I think about when I watch the kayak videos tho is how cumbersome it looks not being able to stand up or move. Maybe it’s just a form of claustrophobia I have or something.

Hopefully we can all make it down there during the winter and spring. It’s totally worth the drive. I usually stay in the bay and really haven’t been to LJ to look for YT. Maybe one day.

Was just out at capistrano beach and seen the waves breaking a couple hundred yards out and was wondering if there was a reef or sand bar. Your video answered my question i forsure need to grab a kayak and hit the reef for some of those sheep head
@SouthwestKayakFishing
@SouthwestKayakFishing Жыл бұрын
Yes, there are a few reefs and rock piles off the beach but they’re not known to have Sheephead on them. The closest productive ones are just right out of the harbor near the white and red buoys. If you want to find a better Sheephead bite you need to go north to the kelp beds just off the strand and salt creek. Good luck!🍀

Man what a cluster f**k with that shark! You got lucky and avoided injury there. Why even bring it aboard other than getting video content? Just cut that line. Hook will rust out.
@SouthwestKayakFishing
@SouthwestKayakFishing Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your concern, but you should know Leopard Shark have “very” small teeth. Yes it does make good content and after boating dozens of these I feel quite safe handling them, and I feel responsible for removing the hook.

Glen, do we need a 2 rod stamp for a kayak in the ocean? Trolling a bait (1), casting a lure (2) ?
@SouthwestKayakFishing
@SouthwestKayakFishing Жыл бұрын
Not for the ocean but for fresh water but it’s best to check the DFW website for more info. Also, it would really be problematic fishing with a second rod in deep water for rockfish.

We were up there north of the point today. It was pretty tough fishing for everyone. I only managed two short Sheep. There is red tide out of the harbor all the way up to the point and the water temp was 58°
