Perhaps some of the worst possible music and way too loud. Thumbs down for this cheap smattering of still photos.

Cod is a beautiful boat and the crew is to be commended for their preservation efforts. I went twice this year, the second time to meet Drachinifel, and I look forward to going next year. For reference at 2:00 what you called the galley is actually just the wardroom pantry. Food is brought forward from the galley and prepped for the wardroom here, along with coffee and other officer-worthy stuff. When Drach visited the Cod, Paul Farace was kind enough to open the bridge level up to the group (as long as we were careful climbing up). We got to play on the Aft 40mm and look through the forward TBT, a great treat. The stories he can share about the boat, and naval history in general, are excellent. They also fired some propane charges out the deck gun which was fun.

You are correct in reference to the galley . As you can tell, somehow (my guess is I wasn't recording) I missed actual galley and crews mess. I guess now I have an excuse to go back!!

Nice Video. Good info. Just a thought: those drydocks built 100+ years ago........"they" say ocean water levels have gone UP over 12" in the past 100 years......I wonder if there's some indicator at the old drydocks would support or refute the ocean rising. What do you think?

Thank you for watching, Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, water levels couldn't have gone up to much, freeboard on the drydock gates is still substantial.

If you noticed the homes were considerably newer once you get to a certain point on Waterview Dr. That whole section was built in the early 80s. Older part of the neighborhood was actually 60s. I moved in to the first house on the right when you accidentally turned down Helene dr. in 1970. Glad you did walked down to end of road and crossed that little creek walking to Goodwin Elementary every day. You actually rode right by 2 of my childhood homes. The other one was old section of Waterview the one with the huge oak tree that draped over the road, the very stretch of road of my childhood. Great trip down memory lane!

Many memories of being stationed in Charleston from 82-86. My boat (SSBN634) did her last refuel and overhaul in dry dock 5. Spruill Avenue... what a place. The first... ummm... lady of the night that I ever saw in real life was on Spruill Avenue. Spruill Avenue was always a pretty active place on the 1st and the 15th of the month, which happened to be payday. lol Reynolds Ave. when I was there was a pretty hopping place also. I had an apartment up off of Dorchester Road by the air force base that I lived in during off-crews, so during off-crew I'd only go on the base to go to work and that was about it, usually entering the base through the Viaduct gate from Burton Lane but every now and then going in through the Reynolds Avenue gate, but otherwise I always tried to avoid both areas as much as possible.

I barely missed you, I reported to the USS HOLLAND AS-32 in dry dock, mid 1987. I was Naval Base Charleston boxing champion 1989, I started a riot with my first win, and both the main base & the Naval weapons station Charleston were shut down as a result. Lots of great memories in Charleston, Goose Creek,Monks Corner & James Island
