you are spot on with this video, thank you for your mechanical mind. Just a note, my part to be replaced came off hard and new part was hard to put on. I pulled new part off that I only got on about 1/2 way and discovered that the old part had left hardened plastic in the ribs of the steel shaft. Scraped the ribs clean of the plastic added a bit of bees wax and slipped the new part on. Thanks again!!!!!!!

As others have said, finding your video saved me +$800. Like you I tried everything I could find online to prevent the Sd error, short of pulling the tub. Hello! I am currently in the process of trying to repair my bravos XL and I’m having an issue pulling the agitator up. Did you power off your washer or did you leave it on with the SD error flashing? I’m just wondering if my agitator is somehow locked into position because of the cycle it is currently on. And if that may be the case, how the heck do I get it to release? I hit the power button, but it hasn’t reset the cycle. I’m sure I would’ve heard it. Any help is appreciated!
@onebaddj5 ай бұрын
@@Natures.Destiny Always unplug power, turn off, drain all water before starting work. I should have said that. From build up it gets stuck. Add pb break free, my favorite, or some sort of oil penetrant let sit for 10 min the gently work the agitaor off. You dont want it to bind as it comes off, the agitator has to slide staight off or it will stick. Metal on matal sucks, tiny bit of dirt and a bad angle, stuck.
@Natures.Destiny5 ай бұрын
You are awesome! I managed to get it off and now I have generously added WD-40 to the mix. I am putting the new parts in/on and yep, definitely a tight fit. I am trying to not shimmy the small part down too aggressively, as to protect the integrity of both parts, original and new. Even after cleaning thoroughly and the 40 I feel I need a better suited lubricant. And I encounter the angle issue often at work. A 1/2inch drill bit and a bad angle can really suck lol but angle is everything in some situations!!

Hey, seemed like I had the same exact problem. Changed the parts but now i keep getting a OL error code which means over load. Even when I run it empty I’m getting the OL. At least I got rid of the 5d code and drums seems to be fixed and doesn’t spin by hand like on your diagnostic test . Any more advice ?

Good afternoon, you have help me on the first one I did. I have had to replace 3 more times since Sept. of 2023. Alway the same problem, gears just worn down. It made no matter weather it was the maytag oem or knockoff. Are you having the issues that I Am? Can you think of anything why they are wearing out so quickly. Were retired and just the 2 of us. The steel spline shaft is pretty rusty, it's a bear to get off and on. I tried cleaning the best I could. Thanks.

In case that agitator is stuck, use a ratchet strap and a 4x4. I was lifting that thing up by the drum and it would not pop off. So, I got enough clearance between the drum and the agitator to get ratchet strap hooks in there, put 4x4 over top of the washer and put as much tension as I could without breaking the plastic, then kept tapping the middle of the agitator with a hammer. Finally popped loose. What a PIA .

@onebaddj you did it again, how many years later now? 5!!! We had the same issue, somehow I found this video after hours of trying to solve the dumb SD false error issue. So, thank you thank you thank you! And yes, the one part was very hard to get on. I believe the metal piece it is supposed to slide over had either rust or just so much corroded dirt stuck to it that it made it almost impossible to get on. I lubed it up with a vaseline type gel I use for my pool repairs and had to use a pair of vice grips to set on top of it and then hammer the vice grips down until it got to the bottom. Very important to make sure the screws lineup first like you said. I did that and my holes were just a tad bit off, but when I put the first screw in they all lined up. Phew!!! I flipped over the big plastic agitator and it had so much junk/dirt and even black mold under it so I scrubbed the heck out of it with bleach. Ran a test after I reinstalled it and poof!!!! its working again yayyyy
