Great video, thanks. But how do you get the cactus cut end to be calloused?
@shlyucka7 күн бұрын
Leave the cutting in a dry and well ventilated area for a few days to a couple weeks depending on the size

Do they contain mescaline? As I understand it’s a San Pedro, right?

Yes, and being a Trichocereus, penis cacti fall under the umbrella term of San Pedro cacti.

Thanks for the video. There is also the factor of a specific cactus, species or hybrid's resistance to cold. I live in a marginal climate. I go to see a buch of cactus' reaction to weeks of hard freezes outdoors a couple years ago. There is definitely a big difference.. I had the most trouble with pachanois. Scops and scop hybrids cruised through really well. My friend that lives in Oregon says that scopulicola are the hardiest. He had some scop/tersch hybrids (something like SASS or SASS crossed back to scop) survive as low as 13º f last winter. Over time we'll get a better idea from people like that of what the most hardy trichocereus are and there is potential to breed and select for that more. My cultivar King Tubby is Scop x Juuls and it seemed to inherit at least some of the scops cold resistance. Who knows what may be possible in the future. I've put a bunch out in the ground to see what happens this winter and over time. I'd like eventually to get the hardiest seeming types into a colder zone as a test population to see what performs the best. Who knows what might happen with climate change. We might get what are now 100 year freezes more often. Hardy cactus are going to be a blessing I think. We just need to push the limits to find out which they are. Then we can work with those in breeding to try to push that further.
@SanPedroSource29 күн бұрын
It's definitely interesting to see how different species and hybrids react to cold. Experiments and observations like these are going to be so important for the future, and we'd love to keep hearing from you about how your testing goes.

Hello! I have few questions: 1. I cut the cactus and right after it I water it. Will anything bad happen? 2. What if I did it in winter right now, and I have it inside?
@SanPedroSourceАй бұрын
If you mean watering the mother plant you cut from, yes you can keep watering as normal. If you mean the end that you just cut, then no. You will want to let the cut end callus before planting in soil and eventually watering. Watering a cutting before it has the chance to callus can lead to rot and poor root development. You can do this in the winter but we would recommend doing so under grow lights. Warmer seasons like Spring and Summer are the best for encouraging new roots and new growth so you might struggle in the colder Winter months without supplementing the light and warmth.
@Style_Boyy1Ай бұрын
@SanPedroSource Ok thank you!
@SkiniSwim-q2iАй бұрын
Would you recommend putting rooting powder on the cuttings ? Or just leave them alone ?
@SanPedroSourceАй бұрын
We would! It's not absolutely necessary but we find that it definitely helps.
@ProductShroomzАй бұрын
How often do you water them if you are growing them inside?
@SanPedroSourceАй бұрын
We water only when the soil is completely dry and the cactus has some give to it (feels a bit sunken and wrinkly). We also make sure to decrease watering frequency in the winter.

Oh it's always interesting to see how pronunciations evolve as they travel through different influences, local linguistic preferences, or how a word was borrowed from its original language.

Can i do reporting and cutting now in november, i live in Malta 🇲🇹, the weather is still beautiful 16-18 degrees, sunny 🌞?
@SanPedroSourceАй бұрын
If it looks like it will continue to be warm and sunny then go ahead! Just be careful, you might have more trouble as growth slows down in the colder seasons. Feel free to use rooting hormone on the cut end to promote growth as well.

do they all contain mescaline?

Not all Trichocereus species contain mescaline. Some types do, but the levels can vary widely between species and individual plants. Please note that our products are sold for ornamental use only, as stated in our disclaimer

What is a good watering schedule once planted in the outdoor AZ sun? What are signs of over verses underwatering? I'm struggling to care for mine.
@SanPedroSourceАй бұрын
Over 95 degrees you'll want to stop watering for summer dormancy, and they'll benefit from a shade cloth if you can set one up. Otherwise when the soil is dry and the cacti feel shrunken/have some give to the stem they'll need that full soak. You will start to see rot if they are being overwatered. (If you have any other concerns feel free to send us an email with a picture of your plant!)

Can you talk about corking and how to correct it?
@SanPedroSource3 ай бұрын
Corking is a totally normal process which protects the cactus from water and excess moisture below the soil! It's not something that we would necessarily say needs correcting.
