I was incredibly blessed by God or Allah as my dear friend Yousef Lateef would say to have him as a mentor and kind inspiring friend. Brother Yousef was almost 90 at this filming.RIP dear brother.

such a legend! his music and person will live on, through and beyond our times i only learned about him recently, always heard his name and some of his music but never got to actually sit down and listen to him and watch videos to have learned that he had lived up to 90 YEARS OLD! and he still looked good for his age in that video by the way haha, that's beautiful to hear brother, not everyone of his era got to live a full lifetime and to be a student of his mustve been special, truly

I appreciate this post my great friend Kassiem Muhammad, told me when he was about 13, he met Yusef Lateef, Mr Lateef, was like a mentor to him. Like a big brother. Kassiem made me a tape of Lateef's music. I always pictured in my mind, what he would be like. This video lets me see. Thank you!!!

Beautiful MEMORIES, from a Former Detroiter. Great Jazz around town. At 78 I think I'm recalling The Drome Show Bar. The Hobby Bar, The Deli in same area. Blue Bird was Great too. My memory is fading....l'ma gonna sign OFF! THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES 🎶🖖🎶✌🎶💝🎶 Barbara Mercer

Impressive to not start playing an instrument until 18 years old and end up becoming a professional musician.

Thanks for posting this! It's very nice to hear from the greats when they reveal their motivation, rather than get wrapped up in the technicalities of playing. No heart = no music. Dr. Lateef had heart.
