This is sick, but I do have a small recommendation. Making something that speeds the player up can make it more fun to move around, Manet something like bunny hopping could make movement faster and more satisfying to pull off? Idk.
@EZHNO
@EZHNO 2 ай бұрын
I appreciate the suggestion! Honestly that's an error on my part for not really showing off the movement, I kinda glossed over my parkour mechanics from the original game and just talked about the new stuff. The movement is already super fast and fun imo, especially with the new additions. You get a slight burst of speed when sliding that you can keep by jumping and also you get a huge forward burst when jumping off a wall. So if you combo wallrun-jumps and slide-hops its almost like a bhopping rhythm, but its more like b-lining because you are trying to take the sharpest, most direct lines of movement from wall to wall. Best way to imagine it is like I said in the video, "I want a skilled player to be able to bounce off the walls like a fuckin pinball" lol. I am a huge fan of bhopping, but I think adding it would change the direction of the game completely. I want relatively small fast paced levels with multiple levels of verticality and a somewhat centralized layout, and bhopping or just momentum preservation in general would mean I need to drastically adjust that and all game mechanics. Once again that's my bad for not explaining all that though, with what I showed in the video I agree bhopping's a good suggestion.

Hey Ezhno, super cool game you're making! I'm Bren, a level/ui-ux design student, and I've met you on Hot Lava before and I got some suggestions/feedback for your game!! I've been working on a game with 10 people over the course of a year so there's been a lot of learning happening there T.T First, if you haven't done so already, make a game design document, it's super helpful and keeps your game focused! (Not saying it isn't of course atm) but coming from a person who does this a lot LOL, it's so easy to add things and be like "it would be so cool if-". To start I would have 3 design pillars, aka what do I want this game to be or your design goals basically, and have it so that every part of the game supports those pillars. If something is introduced and doesn't fit those pillars, it might just be bad pillars (and maybe consider changing your pillars) or it doesn't support the pillars and therefore should be cut. Then identify an audience, who are you trying to design for, so that you can make a game that can be marketable and will be bought by that audience :0 There can be more in here and will be as needed but that's the general skeleton you need! I would suggest you to not worry about tutorials, or cinematics, or transitions or any of the game polish... these are all great but these are usually implemented during the gold milestone which generally speaking is the last phase before you actually ship your game. Also making a tutorial now might be a lot of wasted work as generally speaking, the game changes a lot over development so your tutorial will end up becoming outdated quickly :((( For your level design I would highly recommend finalizing your metrics asap! Try to nail down how high the player can jump, how far, how fast should the player run, etc... once you have these locked down, it becomes a lot easier to make not only levels but consistent levels where the player can comfortably know what they can or cannot do in your level. Also !!! Would highly recommend trying to create a "mechanic matrix" in excel or something list all of your mechanics in a row and in a column and try to experiment with each connection! (cwpat.me/misc/puzzle-level-idea-strategies/) this website has a great example of it and probably does a better job than explaining it from here LOL. For the UI/UX, I wouldn't worry too much about this just yet! Only make art and signifiers for things that are essential to player mechanics. For accessibility, be careful of your color palette, those with deuteranopia it's gonna be hard to distinguish some colors like the red colors and the orange or green walls. All that being said, I love your game!!! The movement feels incredibly fluid and a collectathon type of game sounds super interesting for it! Can't wait to see how it turns out and play the game for myself!!

Hey Bren! Thanks for the info and nice words. I agree with all that, I certainly need to stick to it more though xD. Its hard to plan for things that I haven't learned yet, or have no idea that I'm going to need to learn. I could just cut that sentence down to the first 4 words and still feel the same about it, planning is not my strong suit lol Its cool that you do game dev stuff too, I am also working on another game with 2 other players from Hot Lava. Its crazy how there could be a whole game studio made exclusively of hot lava players

@@EZHNO Yup! Learning is all part of the process and yeah planning SUCKS i get it T.T I'm horrible at keeping with it but sometimes my work is stuck in documentation but future ezhno will thank you haha >.< And yeah it's super awesome!! Let me know if you ever need anything, I'm always happy to help out or look over design stuff!

On the Switch version, I’m sometimes able to do an attack after bouncing off of a mushroom, and sometimes not. I’ve tried several times to determine what I’m doing differently, but it feels random as to when I’m allowed to attack after a bounce and when I’m not. Do you know what could be causing that?
@EZHNO
@EZHNO 3 ай бұрын
Honestly I don't think I remember ever figuring it out. You can only attack once and then it resets when the character is grounded, so I think its something to do with whether or not you have that grounded state before you hit the mushroom.
@ZeldaTimeline
@ZeldaTimeline 3 ай бұрын
@@EZHNO okay, thank you! It seemed like even when I recreated the same state (e.g. jump, attack, land on mushroom, and try to attack again), it would sometimes work and sometimes wouldn’t. I might mess around with it more to see if there was something I was doing differently to hit the grounded state in certain instances and not in others.
