Love Gary Shandling. I think everyone in the 1980's misunderstood the definition of "rare" though. None of the baseball cards shown in this episode are rare, lol. The '59 Maris isn't. And a 1986 Dwight Gooden sure as hell isn't, lol...

God, Garry Shandling was a bonafide genius - to outsiders thinking this is just generic cheese, he's way ahead of you, brilliant meta theme tune, Garry always struck me as one of those rare human beings who had a genuine love, respect and regard for others, The Larry Sanders Show was always and ever about human loyalty and abiding friendship, outside of its cynical sheen. Garry was also a neighbour and life long friend of Tom Petty, both are deeply and sincerely missed, the world is a far poorer place without them.

I'm 43.......Anyone here my age? This show wound up being one of the greatest shows on TV! Can't believe I haven't thought about it in years! Here we go again. 😂

I remember being very young and enjoying this. I think I got into it because a lot of kids shows at the time had the characters talking directly to the camera, so it felt perfectly natural.

Larry Sanders show was so, so, soooooooo much better than this. I remember telling my dad to check out The Larry Sanders Show and his initial reaction was he'd had his fill of Gary Shandling after sitting through a couple episodes of this show.

And I always watched it and I always like the Gary Shandling show and I always like the theme song he's always talking about books of the month club and baseball cards we always missing where's the rest in peace Gary😢

He's always got to have a funny thing song that I was that's always catch you and I love it rest in peace Gary😢

We put our Slip'nSlide out in the driveway too. It sucked on the lawn. Potholes and dirt in five minutes. We got cut up on little pebbles underneath and it was so fun we kept going. Mom came home and yelled, "get that thing off the driveway we'll get SUED!!"

So great to see this again. All I have is hazy memories of when this originally was airing on Showtime. Mid-viewing it dawned on me how much this show may have been a template for Seinfeld. I saw parallels with Elaine and George but alas there was no Kramer. Then Louis (SP?) shows up. OMG I'm floored!

Alan Rafkin's 1970's/80's TV shows have such a distinct lighting and aesthetic. Shandling used it to perfection with the writing and characters. This show was so innovative and inimitable it's almost scary. RIP Mr. Shandling.

the show is almost 40 years old. the material is timeless, not at all dated. and i think it's because of garry's honest & open type performing

If this show had been on primetime 3-network TV(had the censors not been so archaic), instead of squirreled away on Showtime, it would have changed the entire format of stand-up comics doing sitcoms. The show is a brilliant fusing of a very well-written sitcom, Garry's stand-up routine, and seamlessly doing both while breaking the 4th wall/keeping the actors in character perfectly.

Wow, we just finished watching The Larry Sanders Show. That was a riot! I remember this show, but never or don't remember watching it. I do remember the theme song, though. It was cute and catchy.
