Thank you for commenting. When I looked in the L4D2 pak01_dir, I found the hunter with its face in one piece. It's in materials -> models -> infected. I only found the L4D1 broken face Hunter when I looked in L4D1's pak01_dir. If there's some other Hunter texture in the L4D2 folder that people have been using, then I wouldn't know about it because I don't have experience making Hunter texture addons.

anyway to get it inside subtstance painter or do i need to get model?
@NebulousNova15 күн бұрын
I think you would need to get the model in Substance Painter and, if it lets you, map the default texture on the model. After this, you could hopefully make whatever changes you wanted and then export the edited texture by itself (trying to replace both the texture and model file(s) would probably be hard). You could also try to make a texture from scratch on top of the default model, but I'm not sure how well this would go when trying to save these custom texture/model files and also make them not look messed up in-game.

@@kizzwave Yeah, no reason I see to try to unpack .vtf files. I think you can just find any texture, and then go into the models folder you see when you first open pak01_dir.vpk, and then unpack whatever model files of the texture you want in there. As far as what .vtf file I would recommend that has a model you could unpack, I would say that you try file_cabinet1, as I would think that it would be easy enough to import and edit in 3D modeling/painting programs. It's under the Counter Strike props for the map cs_office, but you can also search for it in GCFScape if you want.

So idk what is wrong but every time I try to drag the folder onto the .vpk shortcut file it keeps pulling up a pop up that says "The code execution cannot proceed because tier0.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." and then when I press okay it says the same thing but with "vstdlib.dll" instead of tier0.dll. Idk what that means exactly. I'm assuming I'm missing those files and I don't know how to get them. I don't even know what "program" it's talking abt. I'm just trying to change some voice lines for nick. I'm pretty sure I did everything almost if not exactly the same as the video other than the file locations because I'm doing voice lines not gun shots. Also I don't know if this has to do with this problem or not but the .vpk file was in the authoring tools files and not the l4d2 files. It looked the same and was named the exact same thing. Idk if it was like that in the video and I'm just dumb or smth but I think you got the .vpk file from the bin in the l4d2 files which I found it in the authoring tools bin files so I don't know if that has to do with it. I don't know why the l4d2 authoring files stuff didn't go into the l4d2 files or if it was even supposed to but I thought this might be part of the problem maybe?
@NebulousNova25 күн бұрын
I'll start with part of a response that I gave to someone else who had this problem some months ago, inside of the lines below: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ you got a "tier0.dll" error...maybe because your game files are corrupted, which you can fix by going into Steam, right click on L4D2 -> properties -> installed files -> verify integrity of game files you also may just be missing the "tier0.dll" file, and you can fix this by downloading the Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools in Steam after sorting your library by "Tools" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As far as I've seen, the authoring tools files that you would need to do anything with (including vpk.exe) should go into a folder called "bin" inside of your main "Left 4 Dead 2" game folder. I've never seen these tools have their own separate folder outside of the main "Left 4 Dead 2" folder, with identical names and file paths. In your case, you could re-install the authoring tools files to try to get them to go into the Left 4 Dead 2 game folder, instead of a separate folder. You could also move the authoring tools files yourself into the Left 4 Dead 2 game folder, if you wanted to, and if you're confident that the folder paths are basically the same. As long you have Left 4 Dead 2 installed, the Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools installed in the correct location, and as long as you make sure that your game files aren't corrupted, dragging your addon folder into vpk.exe should package it into a .vpk file. In the case that you think there is still something missing from your computer required for vpk.exe to work after you have followed the steps I mentioned, you could either see if you get other specific errors that give you an idea of what you need to download, or you could also just try to follow this tutorial on another computer to see if you have better luck.

@@NebulousNova So I deleted l4d2 and the l4d authoring files and reinstalled them and I also verified the integrity of the files of both l4d2 and the authoring tools and that didn't work but I moved the files from the l4d authoring tools bin folder into the l4d2 bin and I think it's working now. I guess for some reason installing the l4d authoring files didn't go in the right place so I had to move them. It didn't give me the error when I dragged my addon onto the .vpk file so Imma go through the rest of the tutorial to make sure its working. Thank you for you're help. the m60 texture is in Left 4 Dead 2 -> left4dead2_dlc2 -> pak01_dir.vpk (you can navigate through it like you would any other pak01_dir.vpk). I unfortunately didn't realize until later that the "dlc" folders had a good amount of stuff that couldn't be found in the main "left4dead" folder. Hi bro can you make a tutorial for healing sound left 4 dead 2
@NebulousNovaАй бұрын
I don't plan on doing that because you can make that type of addon by following what I show here. It's just that file/folder names and locations will be in different spots under the left4dead2 "sound" folder. You might have to change the healing sound by replacing files under one or more of the left4dead2_dlc folders if replacing them under the main folder "left4dead2" doesn't work.
I created vpk.exe shortcut to my desktop, and then I dragged my folder to the vpk.exe shortcut and suddenly It didn't create the 'DOOM 2016 main menu background animated'.vpk with GCFSpace on my desktop just like the way exactly you did, and I have GCFSpace installed already. 10:43 Inside of my folder mod is included: addoninfo.txt, addonimage.jpg, DOOMMMBGA (another folder and It stands for doom 2016 main menu background animated) and inside of it there is, l4d2_background01.bik, l4d2_background02.bik, l4d2_background03.bik, l4d2_background04.bik, l4d2_background05.bik. I'm using Windows 11 Pro Edition.
@NebulousNovaАй бұрын
As long as you have the Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools, which can be installed through Steam, dragging your addon folder into vpk.exe (including a shortcut of it) should create a .vpk file. The files in your addon folder shouldn't have an effect on whether your addon gets packaged, at least from what I've seen. I don't think I've ever had a problem with vpk.exe doing nothing after having installed the Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools, so if you do already have them installed, and vpk.exe isn't working, I would then recommend that you go into Steam and verify the integrity of the L4D2 and L4D2 Authoring Tools files. This verification should fix any problems with files not working properly. You can verify the L4D2 and L4D2 Authoring Tools files by going into each program's properties from within the Home tab in Steam.

@NebulousNovaАй бұрын
Sounds like you had fun. The Death school is definitely one of most useful schools because of receiving health from the enemy with many of its spells, so you made a good choice. The Balance school is a bit more challenging, but this can make it more fun in my opinion, though this isn't really a guarantee that your dad felt the same way. Yeah, Wizard101 is definitely one of those nostalgia games for some people. I've seen a good number of people who haven't played Wizard101 in years, but watch videos of the game, and people who came back to the game for a bit after not having played for a while because they remember the good times they had playing it. Don't get me wrong, Wizard101 is definitely a fun game, but having to pay for so many things, like zones and good items that can only be gotten from the Crown Shop, I think really stopped a lot of people from continuing to play it. People I know who I would sometimes play Wizard101 with largely stopped playing for this reason, and the fact that the developers (KingsIsle) haven't really let up on making people pay for all sorts of things isn't helping this.

hey can u help me i tried everything tutorial but problem its i did everything but it didnt played custom music i replaced credit music it played as original..
@NebulousNovaАй бұрын
Make sure that: - The folder path to the sound is correct (also, everything should be named correctly) - Your addon is packaged as a .vpk file, and is placed in the "addons" folder - You aren't subscribed to any other credit music addons that might conflict with your custom one - The file extension is not in the name of your file (on Windows, with file extensions off, you shouldn't see, for example, .wav at the end of your file's name) - You are playing on a local/private server, as I can't guarantee that custom addons will work on public servers available to everybody from the game menu The problem still could be that you are trying to use a sound file that doesn't have the right extension for the credits music, in which case, it's best to convert your sound. You may need to save your custom sound as a .mp3 file instead of a .wav file (you can use Audacity to do this). If saving the sound as .mp3 doesn't work, save your sound as a .wav, and make sure that the encoding is set to "Signed 16-bit PCM" in the export menu. If your sound wasn't .wav before, the fact that it's now saved in this format might make the difference in whether your custom sound works.

@NebulousNovaАй бұрын
@@Mrpetegeometry I made a new addon less than a week ago, and it still works fine in-game for me, so my tutorial should still work. As long as you have Left 4 Dead 2 through Steam, and follow the tutorial steps correctly, your custom addon should show up when playing. At this point, I'm thinking that you may have created a folder path to the wrong sound, and in this case, I would recommend trying to look for the correct one in the Left 4 Dead 2 game files, and then creating the folder path again. Also, just know that this tutorial was made with Left 4 Dead 2 in mind, as following this tutorial when trying to make Left 4 Dead 1 addons hasn't really gone well from what I've seen (the addons rarely, if ever, work). You can also make sure that no files needed for addons to work properly are missing or corrupted by going into Steam, and then verifying the integrity of Left 4 Dead 2's game files. You can do this by going into Left 4 Dead 2's properties from the Home tab within Steam.

somehow when i make a skin when i see in-game the skin dont work
@NebulousNovaАй бұрын
Reasons for the skin not showing up in game are: - you have another addon that conflicts with your skin addon (you can test this by disabling/moving most or all of your other addons, and then seeing if your custom skin addon works) - the folder path to your custom skin is not set up correctly - you are trying to test your skin on somebody else's public server found in the online server list (no guarantees addons will work in this situation) - your addon folder has not been packaged with vpk.exe, or the unpackaged version was just accidentally placed into the "addons" Left 4 Dead 2 game folder - your skin file is not a .vtf file, even though the skin file you are trying to replace is this type of file (make sure .vtf is just the file extension, and not part of the file name!...this seems to cause problems for people a lot) Also, if you haven't already, you can try making some sort of really easy to notice change to the whole skin you are editing, so there isn't a chance of the changes you made to the original skin showing in-game, but only in places that are hard for the player to see.

Great video super informative. Although I'm having trouble with some songs. Even when i made sure they're the same Hz, length and format, they just end up playing static in-game. Any idea what could be causing this?
@NebulousNovaАй бұрын
I feel like I've had that problem in the past and solved it by making the encoding setting "Signed 16-bit PCM" in the "Export Audio" Audacity window. If that doesn't work, converting the audio to a different format, or re-saving the audio using a program (such as Audacity), and loading the new audio into Audacity should hopefully allow you to set up your custom sound so that it plays in-game without problems. One or more of these things I mentioned should help, and if not, then I think the problem is likely caused by another one of your Audacity sound and/or export settings. In this case, I would recommend trying to make addons with different sounds each time, until one of the sounds doesn't play static. If you try this, and all the sounds are just static, then I think I would say to keep messing with your Audacity settings to see if you can find one that is responsible for the static issue.

@NebulousNovaАй бұрын
The only guaranteed solution that I know of would be to have your custom sound be re-recorded at a higher volume. I know this isn't the answer that people are looking for, but if a sound is originally at a low volume, then amplifying will cause noticeable distortion of some sort basically all of the time. Whenever your custom sound is already recorded/exported from an audio processing program (in which it was created) at a high volume level, then there shouldn't be any problems with volume that is too low. Maybe there is some sort of effect, plugin, tool, etc. out there that allows you to boost the level of quiet sounds without causing noise distortion creating by audio clipping, but you would have to look into this, as there isn't anything like this I know of that I could point you towards.

@NebulousNova2 ай бұрын
Click on the dots next to the name of your sound in Audacity, go through the dropdown list to "Rate", and you should be able to change the audio rate to whatever you want. I don't think I've ever had an experience with it not changing when I click on this, so I'm not sure why that wouldn't work for you. Maybe make sure that your audio rate when exporting your sound is the same as what you changed the audio rate to when you clicked through the dots menu earlier. Also make sure that your sound is not playing when you go to change the audio rate, as the rate values will be greyed out. Audacity 3.6 and above makes it inconvenient to view audio sample rates, so to avoid this inconvenience, I would recommend using an Audacity version such as 3.5. If you are using a different audio editor than Audacity to change the rate of your sound, then I unfortunately can't help you with issue, and I recommend that you try to look for a guide/tutorial about this somewhere else on the internet.

I haven't tried to make that type of mod (replacing the picture of a map object), so I wouldn't be able to confidently make a tutorial on that. I would think that, to do this, you would just need to make the folder path to wherever the poster file is and put your custom photo in the mod folder where the default poster photo goes. You will probably have to save your image as a .vtf file for it to show up in game, and for more on this, I would recommend that you watch either my L4D2 Skin Tutorial or Flashlight Tutorial, as these should help you with using custom textures in L4D2. If you find the original poster file and successfully replace it, and see it has formatting issues when you view it in game (the image is cut off, isn't rotated correctly, or so on) you might just have to make changes to it in an image editor to get the results you are looking for.

@NebulousNova2 ай бұрын
This can usually be fixed by clicking no on the the popup messages when you go to load in your video. If this makes your program crash, then there's probably either an operating system or hardware issue that is causing this. If you run into the crash problem, adjusting some system settings, reinstalling the OS, or uninstalling its updates might solve this problem, but if it seems to be hardware related, then you might just be better off trying to adjust your hardware settings, using a different version of Avidemux, or trying to do the datamosh effect on another computer. If you are getting a green screen after clicking no on the popups, then that is something I don't think I've seen before, and in this case, maybe try downloading Avidemux 2.5.5, or another version close to this one, and try to datamosh again. If datamoshing on another version doesn't go well for you, then you can try to follow some of the other tips I mentioned earlier.

This normally is done by going into the game's properties on Steam and selecting an earlier version, but you would first have to check that going back to an earlier version is an option of L4D2 in Steam. In the case you are trying to but can't go back to an earlier version of L4D2 on Steam, you would need to find an older non-Steam version of L4D2 somewhere online.

@@NebulousNova i match the sound correctly but for some reason not working it works but not the time tho

@@rylaninstead All I can say from what I'm hearing is that you make sure most of the settings of the base and custom sound, like the sample rate, length, and encoding setting (which you can choose when exporting from Audacity) are the same. You could also try using another sound, just to see if the sound you are using is causing problems for some reason.

I followed the steps and my mod did not show up on the addons
@NebulousNova4 ай бұрын
Make sure that your addoninfo.txt file is set up correctly and is in your main addon folder, and it should show up; that's always worked for me. If your addon doesn't show up in the addons and doesn't work at all in-game, then there's probably something bigger going on that you will probably need to look into.

Make a video on how to download the GMPU (GMod Publishing Utility) please :<
@NebulousNova4 ай бұрын
I don't think that needs a video. You should just be able to use the link I have in the description to download GMPU without a problem. Also, I just tested the download link a minute ago, and it still downloads the program fine.

@@ChevroletCeltaCeltic2008 I'll give some info that you might find useful, as I can't tell the exact problem you're seeing at this point. First, you don't need to separately download any folders, as the only folder you need that you likely don't already have comes with the download of GMPU, and is titled "Gmod Publishing Utility 2.2". In case you were having trouble setting up GMPU, download links to the files needed when configuring GMPU's "Set Paths" window (the files "gmpublish.exe" and "gmad.exe") are also in the description. The GMPU link I have in the description downloads the entire program, which itself is located in a folder that is packaged in a .zip file named "Gmod Publishing Utility 2.2". You can extract this folder using any built-in packaged file extractor that comes with your computer, or with a free program like 7-Zip. After extracting the "Gmod Publishing Utility 2.2" folder, you will notice that all the program files are located in a folder of the same name at the area on your computer where you extracted it. Within the GMPU program's folder, you can just open "gmpu.jar" to run the program.

@@NebulousNova 4:33 In this chapter of the video I made 35 sounds, do I have to put ("Dead Sound Woman 1") <-- each one with the same name but separate, how do I like that --> ("Dead Sound Woman 2") or do I have to put the name of the folder with all 35 sounds that I put in?

@@ChevroletCeltaCeltic2008 As I've told someone else in this video's comments before, I'm not sure how to make it so that you can have multiple different custom sounds replace the base player death sound in Gmod, in that you have a custom sound which is chosen randomly (or otherwise) to be played in the place of the base death sound. Doing this will likely involve adding more code to the death.lua file (or making another .lua file), but I unfortunately can't help with this. You can check developer.valvesoftware.com to see if you can find any info that might help you.
