This scene is so gut wrenching, I totally agree with your assessment. Cillian Murphy is the BEST actor on the planet! His acting is superb in his new film “Small Things Like These!” There is very little dialogue but you see the same intensity.

This was the first and last truly incredible twist on the show. After this, Churchill/Political ties/A random phone-call done off screen manages to solve almost all of Tommy's problems. Tommy's an alcoholic? He solved that off screen. Tommy's got rage issues? He solved that off-screen between Season 5-6. Tommy's suicidal and has a complex relationship with Birmingham's most popular whore? No it's okay, he married her and now she, too, is a bitter jaded aristocrat. Steven Knight struck absolute gold with this scene, this twist, that he spent the entire rest of the show trying to make Peaky Blinders feel like this scene- and the show ultimately fizzled out in my eyes as a result of it.

Can't believe there isn't enough serious critique of this series. It started to fall off hard for me with series 3, when once again everything at the end of the season was tied up off-screen, off-script, with a phone call/letter/meeting Shelby has with a very important person that solves all his problems for him. So much screen time was dedicated in Series 4-5 to essentially making punk-rock music videos with the set and costume design, but not actually developing any decent plot or characterizations. The whole second half of the show felt like it was written in such a way as to provide as many music-video camera shots as possible, not telling a believable or interesting story.

As good as the show was, seasons 5-6 were nowhere near as entertaining as the first 4 seasons. It definitely started to feel a little repetitive in the later seasons and I absolutely hated season 6 and the finale, they did Finn absolutely dirty, I thought there wasn't one point where i actually felt Michael was going to best Tommy, Michael wasted to me becoming a villain because they built him up to be Tommy's right hand man just to do that. I hope the movie isn't just a money grab and they have a good story in mind.

I think movie makers & studio execs may look at these ratings as feedback too. If the critics rating is broadly in line with audience participation rating then there’s the feedback.

Although the season had its problems, I feel that the ending was mainly supposed to be poetic more than to tie up story lines. I feel they will do this in the movie while trying to progress and finally complete the character of Thomas Shelby. I did truly enjoy the season and am very excited for the movie.

It was a ok season. But it is kinda weak,because of the coming movie. If this season was to be so epic. I think the movie would be a let down. But since season 6 was weak ish. Th movie will be awesome. Also the micheal revenge arc should have been built so much better. I'm kinda hopeful that maybe that was a dream. Michael should have gone out better,it was great between them.it just could have been better.

Found myself here right after I finished the incredible Season 2 ending. I was on the edge of my seat and like you said, even though I knew he was gonna make it, I also thought he was not gonna make it unless he pulled a Houdini :) First of all, excellent breakdown, thank you for this. I think just as he made peace with his death, the fact that it did not happen was not a real relief for him partly because his life is a constant struggle, even though he is an ambitious man. It meant going back to his old ways and chaos. That's how I felt. And his falling in the dirt, staying there for a while, is a sign of more dirt he will get into as he goes on with his life. Dirty dirty business. He is soo deep in it, he can't undo what's done nor can he get out, ever. The only way was death.

The only problem I have with this scene is that right before it begins we can see Mary standing in the background of the room where Elizabeth is and then the scene starts and Lizzy walks into the room where Mary is playing the piano, which would be impossible unless Mary could somehow be in two places at once 🤷🏻♀️ Also technically the Bennet family is of a higher class background than the Bingleys as class was determined by landownership rather than money. The Bennets owned their estate but had an income of about 2000 a year I believe, whereas the Bingleys rented an estate but did have more than double the income. But because it all comes down to land and estates it is also why Elizabeth says to Lady Catherine that by marrying her Darcy wouldn’t be marrying down as they are both from the same social class.

It's not "his" movies if he didn't write them.
@justmovierants8762 Жыл бұрын
I disagree. I understand that writers play a very important role, especially in the crafting of the story, so I agree that it's not his story, but the film is definitely his. Fincher has an extremely unique voice when interpreting stories and executing his vision, you put anyone else in his place and the film would look and feel completely different. Directors with a strong vision will often work with different departments (writers, DoP, lighting costume etc.) to create a film that tells the story they had in mind, and what you see on screen is an interpretation of the script made by the director. Sometimes it's not the story itself that's important, it's how the story is told.
@v-22 Жыл бұрын
@@justmovierants8762 let me put it in a away you may empathize. Sure, if you replace Fincher you will have a very different look and feel but if you replace the writer, you will have a completely different movie. That's why it's the writer's film, regardless of who made it. Think of your short film, what means more? The idea - the story - or the visuals?
@justmovierants8762 Жыл бұрын
@@v-22 the story is very important, don't get me wrong, but the director is not just in charge of the visuals, it's the interpretation of the story. And honestly, if you replace the director (assuming that the director has a very unique voice), it will also be a completely different movie. A really good example is the girl with the dragon tattoo. Having watched both the Swedish version of the film as well as Fincher version of the film, while the main storyline is the same, the interpretation of the characters and the way in which the story is told makes a huge difference on the audience experience. The two films are distinctly different. Another good example of this comparison is Infernal Affairs and The Departed. Scorcese literally bought the rights to remake infernal affairs and did an incredible job with the remake. While both films are fantastic, they are also very different, and you cannot say that the departed is not a Scorcese film. Anyone else in that director chair would've ended up with something completely different.
@v-22 Жыл бұрын
@@justmovierants8762 You are just making my point for me... Both versions of The Girl with The Dragoon Tattoo are great and different but, again, now, change the source material, the writing, and keep the same directors. How much more different would those films be? You are carrying on a bias that most people have because the film is what you see as the final product, so much so that someone who doesn't know how movies are made credit the actors instead of directors or writers but the writer is the auteur, any great director will tell you that, the writing comes first. The writing is by far and away the most important thing in any movie, not just important. The Departed - one of my favorite films by the way - is just an idea transplanted from Infernal Affairs, what makes The Departed so great is, again, the writing by William Monahan, how he was able to incoporate the culture, the racism, the language from Boston. Infernal Affairs was a plot inspiration for The Departed, Scorsese didn't go out there and shot the Google translation version of it, he shot a brilliant script created - no adapted - by a brilliant writer. You ah a smaahht kihd, I'm sure you will eventually come to agree as you move forward with your career. :)
@justmovierants8762 Жыл бұрын
@@v-22 I understand your point, and ofc if you change the story the film would be different. I think my point is that you can have a solid script, but without a good interpretation and execution of the script, the film can still be terrible. And yes, you might argue that you need a good script in the first place for the film to be great, and I don't disagree with you. The point I'm trying to make is that the role of the director and its influence on the final product should not be underestimated. The script is not a recipe or list of directions for a director to follow, in fact, I'm sure you know, not everything on the script always ends up in the final film. What we see in the end is very much up to the director. Touching on the point about people miscrediting actors for what they see, that could be because they are not aware that how an actor decide to act is directed by the director, the actor might have multiple interpretations but ultimately which interpretation we see is decided by the director. The same cannot be said about writers, the writers don't dictate how a director interprets a script, once they finish the script the film is out of their hands. (I hope my comparison here is clear) I do agree that writing comes first, every film needs a good foundation to work off of. But the writing is hardly the entirety of the movie. Going back to how this conversation started, you commented on the fact that films directed by David Fincher cannot be considered as his films, but can you consider them as the writer's films? I don't think so. (If you do, what about the writers who just adapted a story? Like in the case with the departed, I can argue with your logic that if he adapted another story instead of infernal affairs the whole script would be different no?) The concept of auteur did start off with writer directors, but I think it uniquely applies to Fincher because he has a very unique directorial style. When you watch any film made by Fincher, you can tell distinctly that it's made by him, that's what makes him an auteur.

I watched this movie for the first time and it is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever watched. I watched Atonement before but this one is on the top. The cinematography, the simplicity, the sexual tension between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth, the introvert nature of Mr. Darcy, the fighting spirit of Elizabeth, the shots where there are surrounding trees and castles. It is so beautiful. Also, one of my fave scene is this one take shot. It makes you focus on one character to another without overdoing it,making the viewer like an onlooker.

I dunno… I’m conflicted. I actually liked the slower pacing and the more arthouse elements of season six. And I didn’t mind the more minor elements making up the majority of things. But I do agree that I wanted more cat-and-mouse between Michael, Tommy, Mosley, and the IRA. But hopefully we get more Mosley cat-and-mouse in the movie. As for why Tommy didn’t kill the doc… I think it was genuine aversion to wanting to kill more. The whole season (and series) has been littered with characters getting tired of killing. I think it finally caught up. And yeah, the lack of Billy Boys was weird to me. You don’t introduce something and then forget about it.

I loved the first 3 movies, might have watched the fourth and blocked it from memory and definitely didn't see the fifth. I too always loved Jack and wish we'd known more about him as a character/person. I can see what you're saying about how the 5th movie ruined some things for the character, but at the same time, that probably came about because of all the people who, like with other beloved characters with mysterious or long since occurred backstories, wished they could see x character when they were young, or when they just started, or when y happened. The fifth movie was probably trying to give us a bit of that, but they went the most boring, Disney cartoon route. It's like "what if Jack Sparrow...but young!" and that was literally all they did with it, transferring other aspects of him directly to the past. Still a pirate, still clever, still pissing off and outwitting others, gg ez. Meanwhile with the deleted scene, we get the insane and heavy (which might be why that bit was cut) revelation that Jack signed off on transporting actual humans, possibly not realizing what he was in for until he had them, and that there was a true moral dilemma that he had to deal with and no semi-drunken swagger and comedy would or could get him out of it. Imagine what that scene would have looked like if portrayed during the era of the first 3 movies. The look he would have had on his face when all of that exterior just falls off and he's like "Those...are actual people in these crates/cages..." type thing. That would have been powerful stuff. Then we would've cheered for him harder than ever if they were to make a sweet Sparrow-esque thing out of it. Still has to be clever and all that to save them, and he does the truly right thing in the end. Maaaaannnn.

Felt like the way they wrote Finn was also a massive shame. Out of anyone, he GREW up throughout the show - and should've grown into his role a lot better than what he was written to do. Essentially being the next down from John, he should've been given a much better character arc. Especially if Arthur was taking a backseat, someone needed to fill the sidekick's shoes. But no, they just replaced him suddenly with Tom's newly discovered son who we know basically nothing about, and who was introduced abruptly out of nowhere. Also felt like there was a weird disconnect between Finn and Isaiah. The pair of them basically grew up together, yet neither of them really shared any chemistry or friendship.

Interesting ideas. I felt that the IRA lady was completely out of her depth and aghast at the fascist, antisemitism in Uncle Jack, Mosley and Diana. She seemed horrified ar Diana and Hitler eating breakfast while they forced a group of Jews to eat grass. Of course, anyone should be absolutely horrified regardless of race, religion etc. But it highlighted just how evil the fascists were, and how far they'd go. I took it as she had gotten in way over her head. Was surprised that 4 years went by and Tommy hadn't hunted her down for the deathbed Polly though.

It was Arthur who removed the bullets from the gun and saved Tommy. It wasn't Lizzie, she did the opposite, she threw the bullets at him and told him to try again, for me that was disgusting and I hated her a lot, I hated her before. And it's one of the things I didn't like about S6 because they focused a lot on Tommy and Lizzie and their horrible marriage and had much more interesting themes and characters. Like Ada, Arthut, even Duke, Finn I was expecting a big revenge from Michael, it was very disappointing.
