I just can’t even fathom the amount of time and work you do for every single camera angle, and how you try to make sure to just act normal when walking out to your camera that you just put down somewhere. This is pure entertainment with some knowledge behind it. Great Job Ernie!

Helps a lot if you understand something about torque wrenches ... and torque ... and what you are actually trying to measure ... and why. Wet? Dry? Do you know? Clean bolt, dirty bolt, worn thread, fresh thread, appropriate engagement, bottoming out? Which torque setting is the limiting factor - maybe the bolt as 6nm lasered onto it but is the fitting that you are clamping around even capable of supporting that torque setting? How will you know? Is your torque wrench correctly calibrated, when was it last checked, who checked it? And - if you use a torque wrench correctly, to set a torque on a bolt, you won't actually know (unless you pay a lot more attention to what you are doing than most), whether the torque was originally set correctly or not. Then ... you can start talking about checking whether your bolts are "correctly torqued" ...
@erniemantell69Ай бұрын
I appreciate the depth of knowledge you’re bringing to this - the point of this video is to hopefully make people aware of why they might need a torque wrench. I agree with everything you are saying, but I can’t teach kindergartners calculus
@graemefk651929 күн бұрын
@@erniemantell69 I have no idea what your qualifications are but I'd say, if you want to try and educate in this area, damaging customer's confidence in (by and large) trained professionals who probably know at least as much about their job, as you do yours, is probably not the way to go about it. Pro Teams are also the absolute worst examples to use because the mechanics are working at the speed of light and do (literally) tens of thousands of jobs, large and small, a year - on the very rare occasions they do make mistakes, they're there for all the world to see - how many other jobs, or people doing those jobs, are subject to such scrutiny? I've seen some pretty ropey tradesmen in all spheres whose poor work could be at least as dangerous as any error a team mecahnic might make ... But ... neither of the two incidents that you cite had anything to do with torque errors. And - over reliance on a torque wrench if you don't know and don't account for the very many possible sources of error or the many problem areas in the way that torques are specified can be as dangerous as not checking torque at all. Most mechanics my age (I started as a team spanner in 1987) were bought up without torque wrenches. I now teach team mechanics and we talk about torque measurement a lot because done correctly, yes, of course it matters - but understanding what is being measured, why and how, is at the root of it.
