Cruel evaluation, but what a fun video you have produced. The worst Hallmark movie of this year, was worthy of the best video from you. The comments have been accurate (but infinitely amusing) to the superficiality of the plot, the sadness of the characters, the infinite poverty in the setting...but the image of you with the wig of the protagonist in the middle of her thoughts and the ridiculous premise of the apple-pie fiasco were the final dagger to all this tragedy and I have been very amused by the creativity of your “cruel” evaluations. I don't even give it a 1 rating. The story has many Hallmark precedents, the millionaire who loses everything and is suddenly forced to live on a farm is reminiscent of one of my all time Hallmark favorites: HARVEST MOON. I would love it if you could appreciate it and set up contrasts...in this movie JESSY SCHRAM develops her character with remarkable dynamics and ends up doing the opposite of the “Heiress”...she manages to develop a remarkable skin care product from a vernacular ingredient that exists on her farm and revives a farm that was on the verge of dying and does it by teaming up with the community....One of my all time favorites, I think I've seen it at least 20 times....

Thank you, and if you only knew what I went through to get this one posted today! I am so glad you enjoyed my "cruel" assessment of this one. I wasn't entirely sure how well it would be received. I thought about making some comparisons to Harvest Moon because I absolutely agree it is a MUCH better movie with a similar premise about a rich girl losing everything and winding up on a farm. The characters in that one were so much better and, to be honest, the types of people I would love to have as my own friends. And yes, the way Jessy Schram's character helps the farm and the family living there with the skin care line is exactly the type of ending I had hoped for with Heiress.

Dear DAVID...Your review is very correct and pertinent. The movie, its plot, the characters, the quality of acting and its technical workmanship is so good that maybe the ending could have been more elaborated...it is the curse of the 84 effective minutes of all Hallmark movies, in this one especially, we would well wish for a development and extension in the style of an Indian Bollywood movie of maybe three hours...

Today we did not agree. I liked it a lot, without exaggerating. Although the characterization of the protagonists is well done, that tour guide could not be more inept hahahaha, that image does not look like C. Russell. The movie is full of funny moments and very well done technically, as the scenes in the jungle, the slips and above all, the mischievousness of the monkeys. I definitely don't put it on a pedestal, but I don't give it a 2.0 rating either. I give it 3.5 and I think it's worth it. Hallmark has had several flukes this season, but this one beats the average. At least it has inspired me to watch “Branching out” one more time (I'm past ten views). Rhiannon Fish is adorable, what about "My Norwegian Holiday"???

My initial impression was to pass on this. However, after your review I decided to give it a try. It was a wonderful movie and Sarah Drew is a delight. Yet, Sarah's performance was not quite as strong as it was in Guiding Emily. Her charm and personality and range of development in that movie was almost without equal. For me, the chemistry between the main characters was much less. Nonetheless, well worth a second view. 4 stars. David

Your assessment was spot on. The opening was awful. The romantic interest was lukewarm. I am not a fan of an explosive romantic epiphany at the end and prefer a relationship that builds. The first aid and hammock scene was touching, but crossing the bridge had so much potential for a romantic spark, that did not do so. Void of a charming or interesting side story or characters. I watched it twice hoping for a different result, sadly not so. Two stars are high, although 3.5 on prime. David

I thought the main pairing was much improved over others. Autumn's vocal quality is simply melodic and a treat to listen to. One Royal Holiday is my absolute favorite, my go to movie when i cannot decide on another for either travel or time on the treadmill. Literally dozens of watches. The pre and post carriage ride, the pracrice and final waltz scenes are among the most romantic and charming of all Hallmark movies. The intimacy is just so skillfully developed. The playful interaction among all the characters elevates the experience. Oddly, Christmas Getaway is my second favorite, was first before One Royal Holiday. Bridget Regan's performance was stellar and who would not fall in love with Raven Stewart as Katy. Once again the carefully crafted intimacy simply draws one in in an authenic manner. I found the ending just delightful Both movies I purchased before they came out on prime and I continue to enjoy them. David

I very much agree with your rating. However, I have to say that the first half of the movie bored me a lot, the second half I loved it and the ending was great. It definitely gets high marks for the creativity of the story, but maybe the actors could have been better. Without going any further, Becky the older sister, I would have liked them to switch roles with the main character. This actress, Erica Deutschman, has (as far as I know) one movie with her as the lead on Hallmark and she is fabulous (Cheerful Xmas one of my favs in the genre) and I would have liked her better as the lead in this one. Overall, very good movie and I applaud the philosophical reflection in your review. To my taste, JUNEBUG was better. Spoiler: You are going to like the movie in my neighborhood in Costa Rica. I appreciate your evaluation and congratulate you on the craftsmanship of the video and review. I didn't have that problem of keeping my attention, the story grabbed me from the first moment because of the construction/evolution of the characters. The idea of the connection with her "inner child" in a moment of life jam (the fateful 40th birthday) is brilliantly developed, and both protagonists carry it out brilliantly (child/adult). We are both fans of Autumn Reeser, there is practically no movie of hers that doesn't have 4 to 5 stars (using your scale), she is sincere and direct...I love her style and the frankness how she takes on her characters in accordance with their strengths. It's no wonder that the two best movies in the Wedding Veil are both of hers. All the main characters deserve a high rating (including that comical cameo by Cupo as the waiter), the plot is well constructed and even the car (that wonderful VW 1974 cabriolet) has personality. My rating is 4.75 for Junebug. Did you know that Autumn's Hallmark debut was with Antonio Cupo in the wonderful movie "Love at Thanksgiving Parade" in 2012...if you haven't seen it, I recommend it, it's wonderful. PS Have you seen "Nutcracker Operation"?

I'm guessing that your audience for this critique is people who only watch modern Hallmark movies and have never watched period pieces. I suppose it was a completely unbiased review, but it seemed strange that the reviewer had not only not read the book but also hadn't seen any of the other adaptations, so the comments on the characters and the plot were sometimes odd. I think a better-informed knowledge of period pieces would help would-be watchers have a better understanding of what to expect in a period movie. I have not seen this adaptation which is a reimagining, but I have read the book and seen other adaptations. I'm interested in seeing this reimagining. The clips looked good. All of the Jane Austen adaptations have merits and demerits (except for the latest version of Persuasion, which was a travesty) and it's interesting to see the different interpretations. Of course, reading the book adds to a viewer's appreciation of the adaptations.

In your video of XMAS H-Movies 4 definitely talk about what ROYAL HOLIDAY appreciated would be unnecessary, I already mentioned it before and I loved the reference to the "single" that the protagonists recorded. Your note is excellent and highlights the goodness of all the details of the film and its characters, for my taste is my TOP1 (the dialogue of the moment of treatment to the royal family is superb, especially the reference to the extra towels hahahaha). My only divergence is the evaluation of the role of the "mayoress", for me is a sparkling and cheerful character that contributes positively to the plot, besides her romance with that "powerful" security chief is very nice. The dialogues between JJ and her make good points in the plot. The other two movies are good, but not remarkable to my taste. Particularly in the third one mentioned, the life-changing plot doesn't feel as well developed as Lacey Chabert's FAMILY FOR XMAS (I confess I only saw it on its premiere, in honor of your mention, I'm going to revisit it). I just hope my Hallmark favs for Christmas make your list: the "Holidays" pairing: Heildelberg and Norway and especially "XMAS SECRET" (with Bethany Joy Lenz).

Once again I must congratulate you on your third Hallmark Christmas movie review, it is really well balanced and the narrative is very enlightening. In my case, I am a veteran of the subject and yet I detect notable hits and some omissions, but the end result is entertaining and instructive. My most sincere congratulations. In this case, the three selected for this video are of my knowledge and appreciation. "Xmas Club" is great in the development of the main and secondary characters. Being a father of a balletist daughter, the theme strikes me to the core. The main character's family (Mathison) is great and so is the main character's daughter. I'm left wondering why Hannukka's gift to the co-worker, is she an Afro-Descendant Jew? It's an interesting topic to explore given that years ago I had the honor of learning about the history of the Afro-descendant Jewish tribe in Ethiopia/Eritrea at an event in Israel (my roommate at the Kibbutz). I even met the pope equivalent figure of this religious sect, whose headquarters is in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. In Lacey's film your story lost an important element...the participation of one of the best known Italian actors of the "Cinecita" action movies...the great FRANCO NERO (the owner of the pottery factory). It is remarkable how Lacey gets for his films actors of this renown for supporting roles (remember the spectacular role of Jane Seymour in another Hallmark classic). The movie in the "Evergreen" series is very good, maybe not as charming as the first one (with Ashley Greene), but very well done. The development of the romantic premise is very light and Jill Wagner is not one of my favorites, here I feel the character is a bit stiff and the "superhandiman" is more believable; to my taste I would have selected the third in the series (with Maggie Lawson and Paul Greene). The funny thing is that by chance, on a recent trip to Vancouver, I realized that the four movies of the "Evergreen" saga were filmed not in Vermont, but in a charming little town on the outskirts of this city, very close to the cold beaches of the bay, called Burnaby, which is a marvel, and thanks to Hallmark is now a tourist destination. The cafe and library are real and I had one of the best apple ciders I can remember.

You have shown to have such amazing insight to share and this is no exception! I had a feeling Franco Nero was pretty big but I had no personal knowledge of him other than he was fantastic and has a fabulous screen-presence in Christmas in Rome. And I love that you have a daughter who dances ballet. I have two boys so it was all sports and marching band in our house. You are clearly far more world-traveled than I, and I enjoy reading about your experiences, particularly in learning about the “Afro-descendant Jewish tribe in Ethiopia/Eritrea at an event in Israel.” Now that my boys are grown I hope to be able to travel more, and Burnaby is definitely now on my list, too. @@MagicalMovieClub I am pleased to tell you that this afternoon I went back to see "Xmas in Rome" (I think this is the fourth time I've enjoyed it) and I was reaffirmed by the concepts of your video, plus every line assigned to Franco Nero is quasi-philosophical. It really is a great film full of great nuances and remarkable views of Rome. Sam Page has done few productions for Hallmark, but they are all brilliant, I feel he should get more opportunities. Outside of Hallmark, the character of "Richard" in "The Bold Type" series was delightful. The concept of the "cafe in suspense" is beautiful. I have flipped the coin nine times in Trevi and have always returned (I confess I didn't know the story of the three coins), there is a small "gelateria" in front of the fountain, on your right if you are facing the main façade, there you can buy a "gelato in suspense" in the summer season for the indigent and that guarantees, according to the grandmother who owns the gelateria, prosperity on your return home for the person who donates the gelato. The scenes in the bakery are great...

Watched it again last night and the comment that there was "absolutely no romance, none" is counter to my take. The initial playful banter, including the pushed book off the desk, the shared intimate communication with the walks, including taking her hand for one, the kiss, the trip catching incident, the closing scene with what I took as playful (you could have texted) were clearly Romantic. My take on your "work not Ava" line differs. He put tenure on hold for her and it was the proposal that brought him back, his proposal that no doubt was included just for this reason to return. Thought Margaret Clunie's character started out a little flat, yet her charm, personality, and attractivess rose considerably. Avoid polarized statements such as no romance. I wrote a quick reaction to your video. Today we are at opposite points in this movie. I liked it a lot, because the pivot of the movie was not the romance, but what surrounds it (the beauty of Malta, the culture and above all, the wonderful story of the bees, which I confirm that it is totally true), and in this case it was very well developed in the plot. I loved the female lead (who I remember her role in VICTORIA, a UK series), because her love was not initially her male counterpart, but through the arc of the story, external constraints led to the romance. She is totally captivating and her performance was outstanding, I agree that the story of the crash is already hackneyed on Hallmark, but let's face it, "the accident" was very realistic. The evolution of the romance was nice and the play on the external conditions was very interesting and the risk of doing it with archeological elements (which I have personally seen in Malta) was well constructed. I give it 4.5 out of 5. Also the "subplot" of the sister's romance was very well constructed and interpreted.

Nice review! I've seen every Hallmark movie at least 20 times because my 95 year old mother keeps the channel on all day every day. I couldn't make it half way through this piece of junk. Zero chemistry between the leads. ZERO. Her father is obviously running a puppy mill if that female is pregnant with a couple of weeks to go and her previous litter is only 8 - 12 weeks old. They never said it wasn't her litter. Oh, no store of any kind would have bird feeders on display inside or outside the store WITH SEED IN THEM. At this point I decided to look up the director. Now it all makes sense why this felt like a Disney comedy tv series. Hallmark seems to be slipping back into their old habits of being on the wrong side what's appropriate as if they are pulling all their ideas/concepts from the 1950's... AGAIN. Puppy mills are bad! Floating lanterns with candles in them are BAD. For every step they take forward, and they do take many steps forward, they take sooooo many back it's painful to watch. You can really see the struggle in these movies of who get's to decide what stays in the script. I actually prefer the movies shot before 2015, at least the romance feels more real. Anyway, let's just pretend this one never happened k?

Your assestment of this film was surgical. I really didn't like this film at all (I saw it last year) and I have always considered HALLMARK MOVIES & MYSTERIES to present better quality work than the average HALLMARK film. From there I've seen several gems, this one didn't even come close to cheap costume jewelry in every angle, nothing was salvageable. My rating was 1.5 out of 5 and I'm being generous because I really like Andrea Brooks' style. Andrea and Patch have another non-Hallmark movie that was more redeemable: THE WEDDING FIX...nice and enjoyable...I recommend it. PS...you didn't like it so much that you didn't say anything about that rushed and improvised ending...hahahaha I don't blame you.

Hahaha, I couldn't agree with you more! Perhaps I just wanted it to end so much so that I didn't even care that it was rushed. ;)

You asked us if you should prepare a review for a Christmas movie, definitely "Xmas in Vienna" with Sarah Drew is an excellent choice, the plot and the excellent scenic production considering the wonderful city of Vienna, definitely put this movie among the best of the Christmas format. However, if you ask for my best recommendation for a review I would definitely recommend "ONE ROYAL HOLIDAY" as perfection in the genre since Hallmark. Most of the ensemble cast are proven Broadway pedigree actors and the title song sung by the two lead actors is a gem.

I will gladly check out One Royal Holiday and I'll look to see if it's available to stream on Hallmark's Movies Now!
