The very acts of autocracy and dictatorship are inherently cruel on a social, cultural, psychological and spiritual level; and often on an economic and physical level, too (as means of control). To deny individuals, communities, societies or countries their liberty and sovereignty is a massive, repressive and cruel assault.

The anti-natalism tilt of the emerging neo-western mythos and the recasting of the society myths carrying the day will birth a chaos that will take our collective story back into a dark age. The individualistic focus of this episode lands on the mind like a vision of daffodils in a soft breeze by a very shallow pond. The most dangerous form of tyranny is not the tyrant who is obvious and bloviating. It’s the tyrant who lulls the populace into a self satisfied-stupor of moral superiority; and once enamored will march like rodents behind a piper to terrible ends- finally sacrificing a fragile liberty they were duped into believing they already lost. The tune such a Piper plays is likely to accompany lyrics such as, “imagine what could be, unburdened by what has been…” Conservation of tradition is as tedious and as thankless a task as fence mending. The beneficiaries of the fences rarely thank the mender, and are often unwitting of the suffering just beyond the boundary. But if one truly honors the past then the recognition that traditions are the vote today of those already departed and to dispense with those traditions lightly is to become a mouse…. One that will be whistling the tune the Piper is playing.
