I had a similar problem with my Nuvi 40, but it turned out reset was not necessary. In removing the unit from my vehicle for storage, I hastily forgot to turn it off with the power button, and the battery ran down for several hours before I looked at it again. But rather than running down to complete power off, it was stuck in the GARMIN logo page, as if it were coming up. I found this solution online and planned to try the next morning to fix it. The next morning, the power button still had no effect, either to speed up the power-up process or to shut it down completely; the logo was unaffected by anything I could do to the unit, including the power button held down for a full minute, and the two corners mentioned in the video held down for a full minute. Not having time to troubleshoot, I left it for another 8 hours, and finally, I came back to find it totally dark. Of course, the power button would no longer turn it on, even when plugged in to a power source. After another 8 hours or so on a charging port, the power button did work, the Nuvi came up normally, and (thankfully) the reset procedure shown here was not needed. Incidentally, I had earlier had to solve a simple mechanical problem myself: soon after purchasing the unit, the external part of the power button somehow came loose and hid itself somewhere in the (black, of course) car carpet. It was necessary, but awkward, to press the protruding activating switch inside the slot where the external button had been, in order to perform the power on/off functions. After giving up hope, especially since the car had been vacuumed a couple of times, we found the lost external button. Whatever part of the external button was supposed to hold it in the slot had obviously broken and could not be repaired (possibly the reason it "fell out" in the first place). However, I placed the external button in its slot, pressing down on the internal button, and used PLAIN ADHESIVE TAPE to hold it down so it would not fall out. It has been operating properly in this way for two years. Since one of the most frustrating things about tech gadgets is that tiny, simple mechanical parts break and there is no process to repair or replace them without replacing the entire product, there is a need for homemade ingenuity to keep them operating for what we expect to be their useful life.

This is a great video but it is apparently for an older model. The current model - HRM3 - is not nearly as easy to adjust as this video shows and the Garmin documentation doesn't help much. Would love to see a video on the HRM3 showing exactly how to adjust the length.

Actually, this didn't help me much. I can read, so I know what the settings are. What I don't know is why you would choose one over the other. "Off road transition" for example. Yes, I know it can be auto, distance etc. But what is the difference? What do they mean? Best, Daniel

I have a 62st, and I am looking to upgrade to a 64st if it is able to connect to tablets or smartphones to be used as an external gps like the Garmin GLO, or Bad Elf receivers and navigate using the appropriate aps. My question, is it possible to connect to a GPS 64st and use it in that way?

Thank you sir ... great video! When installing the ball to the plastic base, which direction do the nuts face? They are flat on one side and rounded on the other. Flat side in is what I presume.

Can the fields in the Map Tools/Trip Data on the 2797 be customized? I've seen some postings from Garmin that seem to indicate that you can change the fields to something more useful such as Elevation and Time.

It's also worth noting that if you have Tones turned off on an eTrex 20 or 30 then Proximity Alarms won't sound. One of the first things I did when I got my eTrex 20 was to turn off the sounds to prevent annoying key press sounds. At the time I just turned off all sounds not thinking about advanced features I'd want to hear. FYI, key presses can be turned off separately.

Hi!, thanks for the very very clear explanation. Im going to follow a friend through some dirt roads, that cant be found in a map. I need to save the trip, exactly the way my friend guided me trough, so I can go back again with some other people, myself as the guide. How can I save this trip?, I mean, that isnt planned previously, but save it as I go. THANKS!!!
@GPSCity9 жыл бұрын
Jose Miguel Jimenez You can accomplish this using the track back feature which the Zumo and other similar models are equipped with. These tracks can be stored in the unit as well transferred to basecamp. Here's a video with some more info: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaG9d4WooJWCmtk

I have seen no vids of peoples GPS with the relief shaded in. This is not always available and tricky to know how to apply it. Is anybody familiar with the problem I am referring to here, or is it that nobody either knows of it, or gives a shit. I find it immensely helpful to have all the appropriate info showing in an easy to see layout over shaded relief to make the elevation changes "pop" out.
