THE GOSPEL - as a poem A warning does not need a flowery word to be heard. A gracious offer of hope does not need to rhyme. However, this message must be said in every way - so pay attention, because there is severely limited time. The end of the world draws near and you have seen the signs, but death has haunted you from your very birth as well. Imminent and inevitable - eternity waits for everyone: an infinite time in bliss and peace or locked in the anguish of hell. An offence depends on the status of the offended - strike a brother, or a constable, or a mayor, or a king. The consequence builds from the first to the last - now place God at the end of that list and your sin is an infinite offence to Him - for He is so much higher than a king. Examine your life: did you lie, did you steal? Did you use His name without real purpose or respect? Were you selfish, ungrateful and hurtful to others? Did you know that the standard for God is ‘perfect’? Were you perfect? Nobody is perfect, I assume you are thinking, but you are wrong for there was such a one. He lived a life where never once did He sin - the only life worthy of Heaven - God’s Son. Jesus came and taught; and did miracles to prove his authority to warn and command all repent; and then He took all of our sins to the cross to suffer for our sake until His blood was all spent. On the third day He rose and, for forty days after, He appeared before others in their hundreds and they became His church - recording and teaching the truth of His sacrifice and, to this very day, we follow His Way - and say: ‘Our guilt and sin died with Him on the cross. His perfect life record was given as a gift to us. A gift we cannot earn or repay, but just receive. A gift that only applies to those who repent and believe. Go beyond this mere poem - this brief warning with hope - (what’s at stake is too high for a half hearted look) and find your Creator and Saviour’s great love, His mercy and grace, all detailed in His book. Pray to him now for today his great favour may be the last time for you ever to receive. Tomorrow’s not promised and then it's too late: repent and believe - oh, repent and believe!
