Im thinking of walking this trail in June and your KZbin video has convinced. The trail looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful document of a beautiful ‘randonnée’. Merci! Where did you go next? My wife and I did this walk in 2023 and I’m pondering where in France could match or surpass the GR70 for hospitality and superb stages

I don't know how he did it! Amazing. I (novice) try this and as soon as my colours hit wet paper it's bloom city and looks hideous. How zero green was created in the sky is a mystery.

I walked this route before it had GR status, back in the 1980s, returning a few years later for a second (this time solo) traverse. Wonderful walk, with so many memories. I made it round Paris on the transfer coach between CDG and Orly but my pack did not. One of the pilots put me up at his home, and his wife dropped me at the airport (Le Puy) as her husband returned from Paris with my rucksack. A car and driver took me to Le Monastier, the mayor gave me lunch out of the local treasury fund, and found a Briton to walk the first few kilometres, his return taxi charged to the local treasury. Florac was full on the first trip, so we slept in the open air (I left a few francs on the ground, as did RLS): next night we were given a huge meal for ten francs. At the florist in St Jean du Gard, the assistant noted the Scots accent: she had been an assistante in a school in Dunfermline. So much more.

I taught watercolor painting in my public school art classes to seventh grade students using a library of Ron Ransom videotapes, using only 2" hake brushes, 1" flat brushes, and rigger brushes. Our paints included only a pair of warm and cool reds, blues, and yellows. Ron's books and videos conveyed the essence of watercolor like no other teacher could. My goal was for middle school students to be able to relate to watercolor artists, to recognize watercolor paintings, and to feel competent with a simple array of art brushes, paper, and paints. I will never forget Ron Ransom's mastery of virgin washes punctuated with calligraphic details.

I was very fortunate to get to know Ron at his home near Lidney in the UK It was he that introduced me to loose impressionist watercolour A wonderful man with a fabulous sense of humour I traveled to Lipsi with him in the Greek Islands in 2004 and had a great 10 days painting in his and Darlis company A sad passing will always remember him with great affection

do you know how patronising you sound when you talk to him like hes dribbling food down the front of his bib?

Interesting comment. My narration was intended to bring out information to help me understand what he was doing and why....for my learning purposes. It was later that I posted this on YT. Ron was quite with it when I made this video and he graciously allowed me to film him, even though there are many videos he made still available for purchase.

I recently had the blessing of buying a bundle of 5 of Rons books. I have learnt more about how watercolour through his advise than any course. The books are out of print now so I feel very lucky as my watercolour skills have vastly improved since following Rons advise and the books are a joy to read. Ron wrote that his books are completely different to other art books out there that all say the same old things about how to watercolour and the reader comes away learning very little and not improving their skills. So his approach to explain the ‘secrets’ of how to watercolour are that you have to ‘Read’ his explanations rather than the usual ‘follow this lovely study’ which he says is basically copying how that particular artist works, when you should be learning the skills yourself. Wonderful man so logical. Thank you Ron Ranson. My deepest condolences to your family, you are a great loss but you are still Teaching and the best out there! 🌷🎨🖌 Edit: Forgot to mention…I also bought the Ron Ranson Hake brushes and love them.

Nice to hear. Yes, he made major contributions to watercolor by his way of teaching. It gave people the confidence to "give it a go".
@beebee80183 жыл бұрын
@@tmikeporter Yes: My confidence has grown now that I have learnt the ‘real’ skills to watercolour and have had to paint ‘my way’ not copy someone else. It has been a real eye opener because I got so confused trying to teach myself how to paint by following all these different artists ways that I did become ‘blocked’ and wanted to know why I was not getting my own style. As I read Rons books I get out my brushes and paint box painting what Ron advises which is much more affective rather than copying a set of photos and within hours ‘I had it’ and feel like I have come out of shut box! 🙂 for now I can paint what I want and feel freer instead of frustration. You were very blessed to have known Ron and sit by him as he painted. 🌷🎨🖌

Steve where did you get your frame to hold the watercolor paper as you paint ?? Thanks
@tmikeporter3 жыл бұрын
John, to the best of my knowledge he made it out of heavy poster board. That's what I have done for painting with 1/4 and 1/2 sheet sizes. Tape the top edges because they get wet, The back piece can be cardboard or poster board. I use clear shipping tape. I hold the top, watercolor paper and back together with clips when I paint. Works well for me. The paper can expand and contract as it is wet and dries. You might have to adjust the clips.

@@tmikeporter Thanks Mike I will try it and see how it goes. I tape it down to my board at the moment

About 85, I'm thinking. He was almost 90 when he died. He still had his wits about him in this video and knew how to stress and demonstrate the principles he'd espoused in his workshops and books. Quite a guy. Lucky me to have known him as I did.
