I got it 2 weeks ago and I moved from Apple keyboard. Have you found a good setup for the command, option, shift and control buttons? Still trying to figure out the best position for it.

TBH, I'm having the same issue. For most of my usual shortcuts, the default configuration works, but there are a few that just don't and I'm still trying to figure out the best setup. If you find one that works for you, share it, I'd love to try it!

This or the voyager by zsa?

That's a great question. I would love to try out the Voyager to answer it properly, but without having done so, I would say the Glove80 still has the upper hand on the ergo space, so I would pick the Glove80. What about you???

I love mine, but thanks for your notes about the legs. I had just given up on the tenting, going to try again. For anyone thinking about getting one as their first mechanical… go get a cheap mechanical first and try out the different switch options. I figured the lightest switches were best and I got the red linear pros. They are too easy to bump or double-tap. Now after investing in a cheap mechanical and some switches, I’ve realized I like tactiles. The Glove 80 is not hot swappable, so I need to decide between building a custom board or buying a Glove 80 with tactiles. Or maybe both. Mechanical keyboards are an addiction, you might as well find the hooch you like before you start buying the expensive stuff.

That's solid advice Oscar, thanks for sharing your experience. You're absolutely right, this keyboard isn't hotswappable, that was my mistake on the video, and because of that, you better be sure you know you like these switches. There are also switch testers you can get online, although they're not the same as getting a full keyboard, at least you get the idea of what all of them sound like at once. That's also a good option.

I think they designed this keyboard for everyone that wanted to have better ergonomics. "Designed for developers" is a meme to be honest. The number of keys is subjective and it less keys != optimized for developer.
@the-scripting-den
@the-scripting-den 3 ай бұрын
I don't think I ever said the keyboard is actually designed for developers, I think, in fact, I did say the design was with people with RSI in mind, not devs. That said, I do cover the overall impact it can have on your performance as a developer, although, like you very well put it, it's all very subjective. Whether you like the keyboard and its design philosophy is totally up to you, and that happens with every single keyboard out there.

I have had a glove 80 for about 3 weeks now.... I have come from a standard qwerty non split logitech keyboard. It sure is taking some time to learn and I still am making many mistakes especially in programming. I am slowly adapting my layers to aid but every time I do, I need to retrain my brain. I hope the learning curve eases off soon. I'm 50 and not the fastest learner in town.... I definitely feel the potential.... but right now can''t get the full benefit and now am in a situation where my words per-min have tanked as well on a standard keyboard.... It's quite the experience....

Hey! Thanks for sharing! What motivated you to make the switch? Were you suffering from any pain? Or were there other reasons? As for the slow typing experience, I'd say it's completely normal and expected if you've never used a split keyboard. That said, are you using pages like monkeytype.com/ and www.keybr.com/ to practice? Especially the second one is great for practicing common key combinations. Give them a try if you haven't!

There is a time when it really sucks. Give you brain time to adapt and try to practice daily
3 ай бұрын
@@elPach0 It took me 2 months to get fully up to speed again, so don't worry. You start useless, then you get better but are frustrated because you know that you're better at typing than this. Then, about a month and a half to two months in, you'll just be typing and realise how you haven't felt annoyed for being slow in a while.

Good catch! My bad, that's probably the only thing I haven't tried with the keyboard yet. I should've tried it before making the video, my mistake. Thanks for the correction!

Thanks for the review, I've been looking to get my very first split ergo keyboard and it's a bit hard with all the options available out there. I'm in a similar boat as you, 9-12 hrs working as a software dev, between this Glove80 and the UHK v2 which one would you recommend? I'm inclining more for the UHK just because of the available modules, does the Glove80 have any module options? I like the idea of using the key cluster and the trackball later on with the UHK, but I'm also liking the slightly more ergonomic design of the Glove80 with the curved keys.
@the-scripting-den
@the-scripting-den 4 ай бұрын
Glad you liked the review! Gotta say, I've been eyeing the UHK myself, but the staggered layout and the lack of a keywell make it less appealing to me than something like the Glove80, or even my Dactyl Manuform. The support for modules definitely makes it interesting, however, I would be sacrificing all the power I get on my thumbcluster for the ability to use the mouse with my right thumb. Personally I would advice for the Glove80, but like I always try to say when recommending keyboards, in the end it's all a matter of personal preferences. If YOU like the UHK better, then that's the right choice for you.

Thanks for your review! How long did it take you to get used to the key well and staggered layout?
@the-scripting-den
@the-scripting-den 4 ай бұрын
Hey, no time at all. The main thing to get used to once you make the switch into a keyboard like this one, is the fact that is a split, but once you're used to that, the columnar layout and the key well feel more natural, so it's just a matter of doing some monkeytype.com challenges and you'll feel like at home!

I started with the X-Bows lite, and upgrading to the Crystal was definitely worth it for me. Love the layout, the feel, the weight. And the rainbow lights, of course :) (though I did dial down the brightness).

Its better if u decouple the folders, and they talk each other through some queue, in future u can easily switch to microfrontends if u need.
@the-scripting-den

That's definitely another route! Of course, the more you spread the easier it can scale, but the harder it is to maintain. Just the same problem you have with microservices.
