This is most likely the 1986 version by Les Adams. I hear some drum attacks that are typical for that year (or at least a-typical for the 1970s).

It was huge most likely the best ILR Station just shut down and never has anything replaced it, it was a sad day when Mercia was shut.

Coventry Cable TV cameramen used to plug their cameras into Mercia Sound Uher tape recorders & take their sound.

I was the first Head of Music at Mercia Sound and I was executive producer on many of the sessions. Mike Smith was a perfectionist and we often worked late into the evening to get the desired result. I felt so proud when I heard these jingles on air for the first time. RIP Mike.

We had Philips 2000 and yes, next to no movies for rental. Auto tracking with no manual adjustment......nightmare. Picture quality beat both VHS and Beta when working properly. Double sided tape meant 8 hours recording time!

We had one too back in the early 80s. And as you say, it was hard getting movies to rent for it. There was one one place in town that had some and the selection was limited. Everybody else had Betamax.

Mercia Sound was a great station, ran by people passionate about radio. Today we just don't have this kind of radio, more stations to listen to but less quality and far less interesting.
