Jesus, he had to be betrayed for the cause to be universal. Links it to Marxism... Class struggle is first Vs third world for mao. The invisible background of labour of historical development Women/Asians allowed to be good mannered in their protest, private, but don't take it overboard, public, as ruinous to the state.

Contingency turns to necessity for Hegel, only in retrospect does it look necessary. When people say a future thing ruined the original, they are missing the point of mediation. The future thing mediates the original. You can't go back to the original thing. You look at the original thing through the lens of the new

Marx is retroactively responsible for lenin/Maoism. They created their own predecessors. Original theory in new context Because we look back using those theories, leading to an inherent transformation of the same theory

Identify one as part of movement - inhuman. Desubjectivised. To stand outside society and norms - inhuman. To focus not on social relations - inhuman. Seeing oneself as part of a movement's wave - inhuann

Humanism and terr to humanism or terr (liberalism) at the end of the 20th century. Humanism or terr. Levinas - doesn't take into account inhumanness of the other. Inhuman - subtracted of all individuality/personality (terminator/alien - and yet they're made more human by carrying out their job without emotion). The small becomes the big. Don't be afraid of the big. Ww1 - Russia ww2 - Russia and china ww3- even more. Against war but not afraid of it (proletariats as true master then). Revolutionary - as a living dead. The small becomes the big. Do not be afraid of the big Ww1- Russia ww2- Russia and china ww3 - even more. Proletarian don't want war (unlike aristocracy) but not afraid of it. Inhuman madness. Revolutionary position to think oneself as dead already. Another inhuman element: following laws through habits. How to apply explicit norms. Pretend it is a free choice but not. Politics- make a choice but actually you must choose the right choice. Revolutionary people - figures without habits. Order seen as disorder. All men therefore should be treated as equal. For Zizek, all this doesn't look at capitalist production. Thinks it's all a political struggle. Limitation of Jacobinism politics: equality focus is seen as a refusal to go to the end. They act out (like changing daily life but done through terror) because they aren't actually changing things (like private property). Same with political corrected news (doesn't change causes of sexism and racism). The issue is economics/modes of production are reduced to a political struggle. A spectacle that should be referred to the economy instead (freedom about social relations that are unpolitical in liberal discourse) (Basically Jacobins focussing too much on humanistic elements rather than inhuman focussed on economics)

Terror (justice) and virtue linked - coincidence of the opposities Better to live under manipulators than those who actually belief (fundamentalists). Mistrust of virtue Those who don't want virtue and dont want terror want one thing - corruptiom: another name for the subject's defeat Robespierre - on war - external war obfuscates the revolutionary process, thats why he is a peace lover (terror to avoid war, basically internalise it to have full change). Be careful of 'revolutionaries' who start war. Hitler for example, immediate grab for land Didnt want to go to war to militarise society and then become a dictator. Doesnt want to use liberating external enemies as an excuse Divine justice - not something supernatural but just when the outsiders have enough (outside the law but still as worthy). It is through justice thay this is carried out Suspicious to be showing bloody robes of the enemy of liberty to my face --- The comeback would be war is needed because France was bankrupt. Another would be external influences on France can lead to war There are also those who want terror and no virtue (worse than corruption)

17:23 "The root of any word whatsoever can be traced back to some pre-lingual symbol" This line stood out to me immediately, as I have been thinking a lot about how we are much less in a language based society now but an image based one, with the way in which current media has developed and spread. A plain example of this is how I notice older books don't have any image on the cover but simply the name of the author and the title, which I prefer - but go into any bookstore now and every book has to have some picture or artwork on it and it's very rare to find any that don't. As well there's plenty evidence how younger generations are reading less and less, and the place of entertainment of what used to be the novel, the story, the poem - became television, internet, etc. I thought that connection was interesting to stop and point out as I'm listening.

Concealing a body in a pile of corpses - don't let a criticism take everything down Why should revolutionary politics not take over the catholic cult of martyrdom? Mass movements are not inherently fascist. Final solution not inherently bad, but the nazi twist on it is bad Be careful of the term 'proto-fascist'. Those who have nothing have only their discipline (working class focussing on bodies because no privilege elsewhere) It has religious elements/proto fascists elements - so what. This is pseudo-intellectualism in that the categorisation isn't clear enough

Revolution - not destruction and subversion but upheaval and recreating of the customary so that beginning can be reconstructed. The original as entirely other and yet nevertheless the same The new can only come through from repetition. (One can only betray an author by repeating them) - lol like me now Bringing out the non realised potentials of the past (linking to the virtual in that it is a ghost, a revolution has unfinished elements that haunts waiting for it be fulfilled again)

Chat gpt: One key aspect of Kierkegaard's notion of repetition is related to the idea of "eternity in time." According to Kierkegaard, repetition involves a type of transformation or renewal where an individual can find a new perspective or meaning in a situation that seems repetitive or mundane. Through repetition, one can approach familiar experiences or actions with a fresh outlook, thereby transcending the monotony of routine existence. Kierkegaard also connects repetition with the idea of emergence or newness. By engaging in true repetition, an individual has the potential to break free from the cycle of sameness and experience a kind of rebirth or emergence into a new understanding of themselves and their world.

Spirit Vs letter: Neo-kantians follow Kant in letter Better to follow Kant's core spirit (to connect to Kant himself than his system, it's excessive core). It's ethical to betray Kant's letter to follow in his spirit Criticising also means staying within the letter Repeat lenin not in letter (past results) but in creative spirit, in the non-realisdd potentials of leninism

Heidegerr and Hegel both think state as highest form of social existence/being. Ontological difference between people and state (people fully deterministic towards the state). But hegel as liberal state to regulate society vs nazi state. For hegel freedom only actual in a community of I's (not one singular I) Interesting, hegel saying competition making people within society interdependent (no need for higher state)

Withdrawal for Heidegger: 1) inner worldly affairs will forget the beyond meaning/truth, and will even forget the forgetting (sophists in ancient Greece) loses touch with being 2) more typical understanding. Something arises from background/concealment in a mystery (this relates his Earth idea too, as resisting). There is always something hidden supporting our practices (therefore earth resists absolute total meaning of a historical world) Why japan pre-industrial and industrial. The drive is something withdrawaing from view (thr desirability for the new world). Earthly thing (shelters and supports our basic preferences efficiency and flexibility, havingl largely withdrawn from view)
@yazanasad7811
@yazanasad7811 6 күн бұрын
The earth is therefore something mysterious behind the ontic or it is actually withdrawn because it is so self-evident (the very medium through which we see everything) Hegel: 1) the beyond 2) the obstacle screen that distorts our access to the beyond Zizek argued the oscillation between 1 and 2 is what defines the earth (again idea about how subjectivity emerges)

The reel: he fundamental feature of society today is the irreconcilable between individual and totality. there is no higher/grounded society beyond the irreconcilability between seeing society as individual and society as organised

Levinas - metaphysical as knowing as othering, as differentiation therefore at the ontic level (and not necessarily a bad thing),. Allows for differentiation discussions about different technologies as opposed to ontological discussion which removes politics and ethics. Arendt - wants a revolution within a democratic framework (stuck between heidegerr and liberalism).

The U.S. has become a culture by and for corporate power. Canada, Europe and Scandinavia have worked to balance the wants and needs of corporations/the wealthy, with those of the ordinary citizen. They are wise enough to recognize the inherent power differences. And use social forces like laws and values to protect their people and their social fabric from the horrors of unbridled capitalism.

People too negative on revolutions (look back and see it negatively from history). They don't see the positive in that it allows for people's revolutionary becoming (to not tolerate anymore the intolerable and to not feel demeaned, shamed) The revolution starts after the revolution (but they're two different revolutions. The people revolting in the streets are different from those who take power) Foucault seees this this as a transcendental act, one surpassing social/political/economic/etc. A suspension of the historical (in between 2 historical periods). New in itself and thus always remains new (sublime, noumena Kantian influence) Kantian sublime : it appears in ultimate horror (the revolution has vile elements) Revolution as realpolitik is excluded here Zizek ends up saying this is deadend (the Hegelian thinking) but there was an authentic revolution (chance for open minded beyond liberalism and tradition)
@yazanasad7811
@yazanasad7811 8 күн бұрын
Islam - the prophet is an orphan, god intervenes when there is a blackout/suspension of the family/paternal logic (when the mother/child are ignored by the father) This makes politics embedded into Islam because the family is not the core unit Islam at its best when egalitarian fraternity established (from nowhere beyond the parent, i.e. god) Islam is there when no traditional familial safety network So Foucault was right in thinking there was a chance for revolution (truly utopian opening)

Democracy needs anti-democratic elements Democracy needs anti democracy to rejuvenate itself (and remain a democracy) The state needs people to rebel to rejuvenate itself (only in resistance to a state do a people remain a people) Might be too clean The inefficiencies of democracy is solved through more democracy (because it's never going to be a perfect system anyway). Other ways can make it totalitarian

Domestication of Neitzche - using Neitzche as a theory to theoretically poke holes in democracy, rather than living Neitzche's principles (which is more subversive). Power wants to use subversive people/ideas within their framework, almost as remaining theoretical only, see chin and marx for example Power as fixing meaning (discourse) closes ideas for new thoughts, as opposed to theory which can deconstruct
