#9 Once worked a place where the residents had to put their wire in plastic baggie after the procedure and show it to their attending. No one ever forgot the wire. 😂

I had a bad cold or flu last week and for 1.5 hours while I was trying to sleep on my back I was constantly coughing and I had a lot of gurgling and bubbling of fluid in my lungs. I've had that before so I was not alarmed but it was distressing to think I had the whole night ahead of me. I flipped over to sleep on my stomach and ALL of the bubbling and gurgling in my lungs went away and the coughing reduced to near zero. I was shocked at how dramatic the change was. I was basically able to sleep the rest of the night. I also slept on my stomach the 2nd night, though I had a little bit of coughing but I was eventually able to sleep most of the night. To sleep on my stomach I sleep with my head on the edge of the pillow so my face is angled slightly down and I prop up my shoulder with 3 folded towels and I also lift my hip on that same side with a crumpled up bedsheet. This reduces the amount of neck rotation needed to sleep on my stomach. Another trick is to add something to keep your head from sliding off the pillow. It's hard to describe but basically I use pillowcase with the T-shirt in the end of it that sticks out from under my pillow and that creates a stop (like a wedge) to prevent my head from sliding off the side of the pillow. I've worked out these tricks for sleeping on my stomach over the past 2 years because I find stomach sleeping helps me sleep a lot better. I'm 57 years old and turning my head to the side to sleep on my stomach is more difficult than a younger person, so these methods reduce the amount the head needs to be turned for stomach sleeping.

Are these tests reliable? I read on- line that a person can have liver disease with normal liver tests. Also how reliable is the GGT test to diagnose liver disease or pancreas cancer?

My alt is 124 and my ast is 118. The blood test was taken a week ago. Before the blood tests, after simple abdominal ultrasound, I was diagnosed with NAFLD. I also am grade 1 obese, at the limit with overweight. I will go for further investigation this week. The doctors said the ast, alt should have been lower in this condition. I did take Paracetamol/Nurofen and got to the gym the weeks before the blood test. I stopped the heavy workout at this time.

Something VERY notable to bring to your attention, that I learned from listening to Dr Robert Lustig, an authority on this topic, is that the "goal posts" has moved, to statistically account for a fatter, & and more metabolically UNhealthy society!! And one of his lectures.He said the "high figure" was anything above 25 in the 70's when he was in medical school..... So, now, in our present day, a 30 is normal, yet was high in the mid-70s. Do your own interpretation of that... The lower the better!

I repeated the labs 1 month after and got better results of AST/ALT 27/12. My doc said the elevated AST might be related to inflammation as I had back pain at the time or just an error. Hope yours would be ok. @@themeekshallrule

Where I live a normal ALT is 0-41. In May 2022 mine was at 48. This May 2023 it was 55. Do I need a liver ultrasound? Here the normal range for Albumin Creatine Ratio is 0-20. In May 2022 mine was 30. This May 2023 it was 95. In August 2023 it was 127. I see a lot of bubbles in my urine. Doctor prescribing Metformin for elevated blood sugar. Will Metformin help to bring my numbers down and lessen the bubbles?

All of you Doctors only seem to understand what it means to have elevated ALT and AST, but have no idea what it means to have low levels too low. Doesn't the proper function of your body also depends on the proper amount of these enzymes. Obviously if ALT is too low then the protein conversions are not going to happen. Correct? WHY IS THIS NOT IMPORTANT?
@anomalyp8584
@anomalyp8584 Жыл бұрын
That's because primarily these tests are designed to sniff out damage to liver cells (not gauge the function of the liver). Both are linked, but not in a certain formula. AST and ALT leak out of damaged cells...so you expect them to be higher than normal in certain pathologies. When that pathology is supposed, the lab test will be requested. To answer your question: levels of AST/ALT are not directly linked to liver function (too much variability within and between people). Only if clinical signs are present you can search more precisely and have other tests performed.
