After doing some research, this seems to be one of the better or even best of triplet loupes, even having a decent coating. I just ordered one together with a brown leather box on eBay.

BelOMO is no longer carried by Amazon. BelOMO optics are made in Belarus which is under sanctions for aiding Russia in the invasion of Ukraine. From Wikipedia: "On December 5, 2023, the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control has added BelOMO, LEMT BelOMO and JSC Zenit BelOMO, another BelOMO subsidiary, as well as their Directors general, Moroz, Shkadarevich and Gaichuk, to its Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List."

Just got one ordered on Ebay from Belarus, shipped directly from the factory as I understand, cost £24.90 including delivery and was delivered in about 2 weeks. Comes without lanyard, stamped made in Belarus on the back with western letters so I believe it`s the export model with coated lenses. Only quality issue was a rather noticable blob of paint on one of the lenses. Could not remove with a nail or plastic as the paint was very hardened so had to cut carefully with a sharp scalpel, well a reminder of good old Sovjet style quality control I guess, I was actually not too annoyed by it as it`s almost expected sometimes when buying from the former Sovjet. The little leaflet was actually stamped to confirm it passed quality control so not sure what that was about as just one little look at it would have revealed the problem. Still it`s great quality for the price, a joy to use and I`m very happy with it regardless of the initial issue with the paint blob. So all in all 100% recomended.

how good is the 20x loupe?
@gemologyessentials87524 жыл бұрын
Shoul be good, but gemology standard loop is 10x.
@robertwilliamson61212 жыл бұрын
10x is the standard for watchmakers, gemologists, geologists,prospectors and coin collectors. As the magnification power increases, the focal length, field of view, and field depth decrease. Using a loupe with higher magnification power such as 20x or higher yields a smaller field of view. Such limited specifics can prove to be an issue, especially as viewing specific spots becomes difficult and fiddly. A 10x magnification level loupe will almost always strike the perfect balance between clarity, field of view, focal length, and depth. I have a 10x, 14x, and 20x. All good Hasting Triplets. I use the 10x almost exclusively. Very rarely do I use my 14x or 20x loupes.

@@robertwilliamson6121 I'm a rare coin collector and the 20x loupe has important uses in that field. It's useful for finding tiny amounts of wear on the high points of a coin (which can cut the value of a coin in half) and is also good for finding hard-to-see varieties such as minor doubled dies. It also can expose counterfeit coins pretty easily. When looking at the coin as a whole, obviously you need less magnification. You can buy three different BelOMOs for less than $100 so the cost is not a problem.

@@jeffw1267 I bought two BelOMO 10X. I also have one each of 10x, 14x and 20X Bausch & Lomb loupes. All excellent. I’m also a coin collector (ancient Roman and Greek, and old U.S., Canadian and British silver.) as well as a meteorite collector, and amateur geologist and rock and mineral and fossil collector. So my loupes get a lot of use. But still…..if I could only have one loupe… it would be one of my 10X BelOMO or Bausch & Lomb loupes. Probably my BelOMO. Because I find I use 10X much more than 14X or 20X.

Regarding the Specifications above for the BELOMO 10x Hastings triplet loupe, there is a typographical error which specifies its weight as a mere "0.40 g". However its weight as demonstrated in the video @ 4:02 is shown to be actually 41 grams.

BELOMO also sells a very nice leather case to store the 10X Hastings Triplet Loupe. It costs $10 which includes free shipping @ belomostore.com/belomo-case.html
