The outro of Blue is also the outro in Skinny and theme in The Greatest, which sits in the middle of the album. So, ya know. Structure geniuses.

Bittersuite is such a cool song. Suite in this instance refers mainly to a musical suite, which is the concept of a song within a song. So the play on words is that as well as of course the bitter without the sweet being basically only bitter, when it should be bittersweet, and additionally it’s all that in an actual hotel suite. I love that there is a kind of escalation of fractions in her music, not only on this album but in general. But even focusing on this album, it progresses from variations on a theme within a song, to two parters, to musical suites, which increase in fraction. It sounds like a Fibonacci spiral, but in musical structure. And in terms of storytelling, too. It’s so good.

I think it’s unfair how there are so many stalker themed songs that are so good, but even though I don’t relate, they’re just so perfectly creepy sounding and unhinged. I feel bad for liking them, but it’s not my fault they’re often really good?? I’m thinking “every breath you take” or “Stan” and now “the diner”.

What I like so much about how she phrased that part just before the switch up in L’amour de ma vie is what it implies. She doesn’t say “you were not the love of my life”, she specifically says FOR you, I was the love of your life but you weren’t mine. As in, she was that FOR the person, and the person wasn’t that FOR her. As in the end of the greatest, “you could have been the greatest”. By introducing the passive and active roles in there, it shifts the meaning away from just “being” loved, to it being an action. Like, “for you I made the effort to be and act like the best partner you ever had but you were not a good partner to me” - because that is not the same as being in love with someone. But she phrases it like as if it is, misusing the term “love of life” the way so many people do. Which I think is also why it’s appropriate to have the title be in a different language than the one in the song, like it’s lost in translation somehow, or miscommunicated. It’s really interesting to me.

Oh, L’amour de ma vie is absolutely a petty follow up to the greatest for sure that’s how I read it and most people do too

The way she sings “painless” in the greatest is insane

The thing about birds of a feather is that it doesn’t have to be about a romantic/ sexual relationship. It can be about best friends, even siblings, and many have used the song with compilations of their pets. Sure, it has a wedding-y til the day that I die element but I wouldn’t narrow it down to just that

Yes, it’s only Billie and Finneas. Except from the collaboration singles, there are no outside people involved in their music creation. Interesting what you said about FINNEAS and Finneas O’Connel being in the credits. I think they put his full name when he played more of a supporting role in the creation. Billie has been even more active in the production aspect of this album than previously. FINNEAS is his artist name. So I’m guessing that if they switch between his personal name and his artist name, it’s kind of their way of signifying the level of involvement? Like, Chihiro is almost entirely Billie, so he’s involved but she has shared behind the scenes of her doing the production. And when it’s FINNEAS, maybe it’s more like a collaboration between Billie and Finneas as an artist, rather than as “just” her co-write/ producer. So that’s my guess
