This was a great interview. I retired from law Enforcement after 30 years. Now I'm at a Helpdesk for 2 years. I had no IT background. I have learned so much in those 2 years. People need to stop trying to avoid the Helpdesk who are trying to break into IT. To me, it is boot camp. I have learned how to subnet and now I'm learning Linux.

I've worked from home full-time for over 5 years (pre-pandemic). The previous 6 years I was in office. I'd rather not return to the office ever, but there are definitely advantages for new people to be in office. There's something different about being right next to someone vs on your screen. It's a different vibe and not always better. Again, I never want to be back in office.

you get more training in office, working from home suck because mixing work and home will wear you out, and lastly coworker wont respect you if they cant get ahold of you when you go on break and do "errands" (so you will lose access to opportunities)
@hellfire03324 күн бұрын
Terrible reasoning. Training can be done online, or if necessary, come in for one or two days a week/month as needed. If you can't mix (or rather separate) work and home tasks, that's a "you" problem. Setup a quiet space at home and set some ground rules for yourself and family members. Lastly, technology makes communication easier than ever, so no, errands and breaks won't prevent coworkers from reaching you, unless you are purposely avoiding them. Times are changing. Office work is heading out!

I just decided that I wanted the A+ yesterday only to find out the 1101/02 retires in April 2025! I don’t think that’s enough time to study and get the A+ for a true beginner. Any advice?

If you work for a large company on a production line, they have IT people in the office. Many places will hire someone from within. Do not overlook those opportunities. You won't make $250k from Google or Big Tech, but getting $75k+, working office hours for a 40 hour workweek somewhere in the Midwest or Southeast beats making less for showing up at 0500 or overnight shift, and working more hours. The economy is cyclical, so if you are out of work, use that free time to up your skills.

I was working at a gym and then i told my boss i was studying for this and he made some calls to corporate and they said they like to hire IT internally. So im not even taking my exam yet, but they are already in the process of moving me in there. Ima get my certification still, but sometimes, look into the job you are at right now and ask if they have that department and if they are hiring internally and maybe you can get your foot in the door and the word of mouth.
