I soloed only last week in the same plane. I had it real tough. A short and curved runway that's always challenging. Took me a while to transition from the previous EV-97, to the Ikarus, but the plane handles nicely once you get the hang of it. I've been trying to replicate it in FS. Trouble is that I've had to tweak the flight dynamics a lot to make it behave more like the real thing. By instructor waited until we spent an hour of circuits and then basically told me he was jumping out (with the plane on the ground of course), and let me get on with it. That was that.

is that section over the small bridge still on the wall? i think its got a proper engineered bridge there now, been riding in afan for around 7 years and was trying to spot recognisable sections
@PhilLee19694 жыл бұрын
This video was put together to promote the still under construction at the time 9feet.com trail which later became the Penhydd Trail, not the Wall trail which was build a few years later. The small bridge section was in Dead Sheep Gully but was removed when the newer and longer version was constructed.

Cheers Phil. It looked a nice smooth flight. Hopefully it’ll be equally smooth when I have my first lesson in a C42 next weekend at Blackbushe.
@PhilLee19695 жыл бұрын
It was very smooth but the horizontal visibility wasn't great thanks to the inversion. I pretty much had the sky to myself with just the inbound aircraft at Shobdon and a helicopter 600 ft below me on the return. Good luck in your lesson - you'll love it!

Yes he is. He runs it but soon after I started there Steve ended up helping to sort out some issues at Shobdon so had less time for teaching. Andy Richards took on some of Steve's workload and has had the pleasure (!) of shouting "more right rudder" at me for the last six months ...

Very nice flight. If you weren’t recording it would you still be as vocal?
@PhilLee19695 жыл бұрын
Yes because it helps me to sanity check what I'm doing. If I'm intending to maintain 2,500 ft and I scan the instruments and notice that I'm 100 ft low or that the VSI is negative by saying it out loud (for now at least) reinforces to me that I've seen the issue and that I need to deal with it. We're all different but that's what works for me.

Phil Lee thanks. I’ll bear that in mind for when I actually get my lessons sorted.

Phil Lee I’m in the process of trying to find a school close to NW London. I’ve flown with Exodus @ Plaistows (Eurostar), FlyByLight @ Elstree (c42) and there’s one other at Blackbushe I’m intending having a look at.

Hi Phil, Loved the video - well done on the solo flight. Hopefully you will upload many more vids as they are very useful for both student NPPLs as well as qualified pilots - not to mention entertaining. I must confess I had a knowing little smile to myself regarding the mag finger trouble in the vid. I completed a flight this afternoon in the brilliant C42 and after doing the mag check before shutdown, I switched the master off before the mags??!! - very annoying - but nobody is perfect. Keep up the good work. Neil
@PhilLee19695 жыл бұрын
Thanks Neil. I was hoping no-one would spot that ! I'm not sure why I got the items in the wrong order despite having the checklist in front of me and having done it perfectly about 20 times before. I'll definitely do more videos. In fact I've recorded almost every lesson so that I could go back and review them. In the hour or so that each one lasts there's lots of information that gets passed from instructor to student that I would normally forget so the videos act as a really good reminder. I've just invested in another GoPro with image stabilisation which will hopefully sort out the shimmering video that you saw at times in this one. I'm intending to post a video of most of my solo flights although - as I'm hour building now - I'm not sure how interesting people will find circuits at Shobdon.
