He is partially a Jew. Look at his face! Have people forgotten how to tell apart Semitic traits? His last name of Hartmann is not a full indicator of his DNA or family tree - it is only one surname out of countless of surnames. There are plenty of mixed individuals as a result of religious conversions in the past. Plenty of NSDAP folks had clear Semitic roots, even though their politicial and cultural affiliation was different. Some notable examplea include Eichmann, Heydrich, and Himmler. Those are not full Germanic Europeans. This is what makes Germany's situation in WWII rather ironic, since Jews had been marrying into the local European populations over the centuries. People have forgotten the art of recognizing ethnic traits, hence why we are in such predicaments.

The whole situatioin gives me the impression of someone suffering on (fragments) of a kind of Tourette Syndrome : saying and doing the opposite of what they really likes to express. And by being afraid for this situation just going to an exagerrate contra-narrative level as people with the Tourette syndrome do so often when becoming aware of what's hanging in the air... And picking this up and diggng in the rabbit hole of the unconcious fears... The thing that is not supposed to happens is gaslighting such a person and that is exactly what happened in the aftermath of all this dark "green butchers"-Danish humor.

Lars von Trier is obliged - for the writing and directing of the most of his astonishing films - to dig very deep into the most ugly recesses of the human spirit. And nazism is one of the places in it. To be able to "understand" his characters he need a certain kind of "empathy" with them, even with the most ugly ones. He is a filmer and NOT a speaker in a talkshow. And without being able to look his audience in the eyes is always a big disadvantage. Expressing yourself in another language other than your mothertongue is always somewhere (especially when the questions are diffficult) a big NOT DONE. That's all what must really to be said about this incident-happening. In the maintime "Cannes" GOT IT. Or is it : 'Gothic' 🤥

I understand his joke but very few, will. Because 1. they don't exactly know the ideology of the people who lead the Israelian state right now and what "you know who" said about it in the past, that turned out to be true. 2. The German patterns of joke-telling wont be understood. 3. The view of people to this topic is one dimensional. You got one bad guy, a lot of good guys who try to stop him and a lot of innocent victims they couldn't save.
