these are really nice, but you didn't show how you made the sand mold.

Would wetting the trowel help in smoothing out the cement?
@bonsaibythesea16 сағат бұрын
I’m using a small gravel in the sand that’s what makes them a little ruff it makes them more frost tolerant

I wonder if you can make a mini/bean pot? That would be interesting to see. Less concrete to try or used the left over concrete to try and make one. It would be cool if you could or a small pot.

Hi. Looks great. Excellent pot. I wonder if sealing the exterior of the pot with concrete sealer would slow down evaporation. You convinced me to get back into it.

The pot turned out fantastic and the Penjing is really really nice...I can't believe the rooting you are achieving on your cuttings in just a couple months, amazing...One question about keeping the pot wet for a couple additional weeks to let it cure...Could you keep it submersed during that period? Love the video, content and inspiration...Thanks James...Sequim, WA...

They looks fantastic! That winter cold eh! Yucky! Do you keep your Sequoias indoors all winter? I found mine struggled, so I have them out in the trailer this winter. They've got down to -10C in there. It's heated. Stays usually around the zero Celsius mark...

Excellent tutorial, James. For the winter, you could hold a class on cement pot making. Students to bring their own supplies or pay you for the supplies and then pay you for your time in the class. Class can be called: Cement pottery with James. The class can start out with small pots, like an 8 or 6 inch pot. Something simple to start with and then go to your master class on bigger pots. That would be cool for you. After all, you are the Master Craftsman of the pottery.

James you reminded me of Ed Norton and Ralph Kramden of the Honeymooners. They were learning to play golf. Ralph told Ed to address the ball, so Ed did: "Helloooo Ball". I was picturing you saying Hellooooo Pot. Those were the days, James. Thanks for the memories.

Hey guy, that polar vortex house reached all the way down here to north Florida. The last two weeks vast majority of the nights have been right at freezing or below just a few miles north of me I got snow. Glad most of my most recent collection is made up of conifers. Anyway I’m 10 shades of green watching you all those natural made bonsai out of the ground. Thanks for sharing.

I envy your collection location. My experience has been with a much denser soil and mainly Ashe junipers in late February. Survival rate was not great and we did not dare bareroot the yamadori. Transfer to a loose substrate was a gradual process. Surviving trees made it worth the effort.
