I don’t know why this 14yo clip showed up in my feed, but it wasn’t long enough! Especially since I was just reminiscing about Stripes. I was expecting Bill Murray to shout out _blown up, Sir!_

I found this video while trying to find more info about the town where my mother was born in 1915. Her name was Irene Gehrke, and her parents were Allen & Lena. They moved away to Bemidji MN shortly after my mother's birth and Allen built a house there in 1922, where my older brother still lives. Allen Gehrke worked on the railroad for the whole time, & died at his Bemidji home one morning when getting ready for work, at age 76. This beautiful video is a terrific homage to the town of Hiles & its people, and I intend someday to pay a visit. Thank you.

Lumber was king, families were large, no entitlements to be had. They were a rugged group of individuals that lived in the north woods towns back then.
