The best part of drag racing in the 1960s and 70s was the variety of machines you saw, with these as great examples. You built your own car including designing and welding the frame. Today, and like NASCAR, most of the cars look the same except for paint schemes and you have a handful pro builders making them all for everyone. The uniqueness of it all is long gone. 😞 I lived a few miles from the now-long-gone Fremont strip in the late 1960s and in my head I can still hear the cars roaring in the far distance on weekends. According to Google Maps I lived only 1.99 miles from the timing light at the strip. You can still see the broken strip pavement and 180° turn-around point of the strip to the west and across the freeway from Tesla's factory on Google Earth if you select HISTORICAL IMAGERY in the VIEW menu and then move the timeline slider to 1993. A business called "Bloom energy building Bmcc" sits on the site now if that helps to find it. Another business campus labeled "Lam Research - CA9" almost overlaps the last turn-around of the track. The grass/dirt runway for the glider port that sat on the west side of the strip and angles off towards the bay but runs almost parallel with the drag strip is also visible in the 1993 imagery. Today in 2024 you can still spot the faintest traces of the U-shaped turn-around part of the track if you know where to look. The north end of the track area had been buit ober and the south half looks like it was allowed to return to bayside wetlands.
RIP Willie, Mousie, and Mike Boyd. No idea where the car is or who owns it

Once upon a time a man said "Behold, I shall build a fuel car with a 1940's Fiat" The world laughed pointed and snicked at the man..... In his shop, after many months of grueling work, day and night, tormenting, welding, hammering, grinding and fitting, he declared "Behold, "The fuel car design that will live in infamy" The people fell to their knees, looked up to the man and said, "forgive us for doubting your wisdom, we have experienced the miracle" and so the 40's Fiat lives on, having a place in the history of man. The end

Factory X could have been the class to save the NHRA, not! Why, they already have stacked the deck. Ford and Mopar run 1 kind of supercharger, while the CLOPO runs a different one. Mopar and GM run the BB 427 7 liter, Ford runs the 5.4 liter. Ford was made to run a supercharger and switch from the turbo set up. NHRA has lost almost 2/3 of their fans for favoring certain teams and Brands. Guess they haven't learned much, I quit going 20 years ago.

You should familiarize yourself with the class before you start crying foul. Out of all the current Camaros, only one runs an engine larger than 350ci, and it’s only 363ci. Mopar runs the 354 Hemi and the Ford camp does not run the 5.4L, they run the dual overhead cam Coyote motor, which is an advantage the Mopars and Chevy don’t have. This was at the Las Vegas race two weeks ago so current setups.

@@croozin2 I don't know what you are reading. I read the rule book. So before you start, ask a question. My comment stands. Plus, I also spoke personally to some who are in the class. You better tell them they got it wrong. And Bro the 5.4 is a DOHC.
WAY better than pro stock , REAL bodies REAL wheelbase , Chevy's in Chevy's , Fords in Fords ...I'm thinking this is named wrong pro stock is more like factory experimental and factory X is WAY more stock ... MUCH MORE LIKE WHAT PRO STOCK USED TO BE !

People, teams on a budget make the show fun and exciting. The deep pocket guys drive the low buck budget guys out and lobby for rule changes to make changes to change the cars go faster but also increase the cost This is why the best years of nostalgia were the begining years. Nothing wrong with a fuel car then running 6.50 - 7 second times with updated safety requirements but keeping with the 60' 70's look and spirit including the CHOICE to wear a breather mask like many did. Look at a AA/FD from 1990-2005 and now. With the slower times came affordability until the abominations crept in and took over. Now it's big show wannabees that have brought in computers and high tech modern B S......😡

Its great. What would make it even better for me is if the rules stated the Funnycars had to run period correct bodies from the 1960s/70s with small adjustments only. I agree, the modern racing has gone past the realms of reality. I think these still are expensive but nothing like the Big Show.

@@fastracingandhotrods6891 When we were kids an would go to OCIR and Irwindale the burnouts were half the show. They would absolutely fry the tires and it seemed like they went halfway down the track. If there was no wind the smoke would be so thick the cars had to wait for it to clear before they could back up cus they couldn't see anything. I think in this day and age of drifting Nitro burnouts would be a big draw. Course thats easy for me to say cus i have absolutely no clue what it takes to run a nitro outfit.
