Great points! You’re so right about how unstable Red Bull is, especially for a team that’s won the last 4 WDCs (plus 2 Constructors’) It has two teams in Formula One, and probably more junior drivers in their ranks than any other team, but the Verstappen problem persists. Maybe more options isn’t always better 🤷♂️
@LasttoF1rst13 күн бұрын
Right, I guess so! It’s just so weird for such an accomplished team to have these issues lol
@Max_Flashheart15 күн бұрын
2025 will be wild and great if the top teams are close to each other. Even the midfield closing up last year was amazing. They choose Lawson because he was up to Yuki in speed quickly and had better race pace without crashing his car in his 11 races and adapts to different cars quickly F3,F2,DTM, Superformula and F1. Yuki crashed as soon as he comes under pressure when Liam replaced Daniel in both '23 and '24. The RB20 has issues so hope the RB21 is better. Good luck Liam
@LasttoF1rst14 күн бұрын
Good points on Lawson. And they seem to Lawson is just generally more mentally robust and up to the mental task of being verstappens teammate. It’ll be interesting to see if teams like alpine or Aston can get into the mix at all
@Max_FlashheartАй бұрын
Yuki has lost the most places during a race with an average of 1.7 positions and Liam makes places on average. All of this year have been new tracks for Lawson except Qatar in F1, and Abu Dhabi in F2. Lawson is the only part time F1 driver to gain 10 places in a race (COTA).
@LasttoF1rstАй бұрын
Interesting stat! I didn’t know that
@Max_FlashheartАй бұрын
Faster at COTA at after 12 months of not racing. Q1 time from Liam was fsater than Q1 and Q2 time from Yuki. P19 (PU penalty) to P9 vs Yuki P14. Mexico Yuki crash stopping Liam setting a his flying lap (would have got him into Q3) but after both Haas drivers set their times. Brazil liam got spun by Piastri and still finished P9 behind Pisastri (yeah it feels wrong). Abu Dhabi would have scored points (probably) but the Pitstop not fitting the wheel correctly ended his race with another pitstop and a stop and go for unsafe release penalty. Yuki's 2m in car damage this year (7.9m over his 4 seasons) is not good. Liam has lost a front wing to Colapinto and doesn't keep crashing his car into the wall also helps.

"They want someone who is slower than verstappen"... lol, thats not a want, mate, thats their only option. Trust me, theyd much rather have a driver challenging Max. He has 4 maybe 5 years left and hes done. They need to find their next Verstappen. Lawson is RUTHLESS, much like Max was when he was younger. In the perfect world, theyd go for Oscar though.
@LasttoF1rstАй бұрын
Fair point that anyone who could be as fast or faster wouldn’t want to go there lol. I think if they really wanted someone challenging max, then they would have gone with Carlos though. He would certainly get quite handedly beaten by Verstappen, but he would challenge him at times. Oscars a good shout for that seat in a few years. I can’t imagine the Oscar and Lando pairing lasting for too long
@Hahxbe104ueloquruАй бұрын
@LasttoF1rst I'm convinced, and it shows in the results, that when Carlos Slim paid almost £60m to keep Checo in the seat, Danny Rics drive died. He was handling Yuki until June when Red Bull signed the Checo extension, and honestly, Danny would've challenged Max. I've been a Red Bull fan since 2009, and I couldn't have been happier to see them drop to 3rd in the constructors this year. Matter of fact, until Max is gone, I hope to see Max win WDCs while Red Bull struggles in the constructors to even place 2nd. I'll never forgive Horner.
@bradcooper4277Ай бұрын
Done in 5 years because he retires or are you suggesting he will run out of talent? He’ll only be 32 by then, he’s got many more years than 5 if he desires
@DeRobezАй бұрын
Sainz still wants to win too bad. We saw it this season with Leclerc. If he’s in a fast car he’s going to fight for wins, even with his teammate. He’d be great at Red Bull but he doesn’t exactly fit the job description. Bottas checks all the boxes to be a perfect #2 to Verstappen
@LasttoF1rstАй бұрын
It would be interesting to see. Do you think Bottas would do that much better than Perez? I think initially he would, but we also saw he was beat down by the end of his Mercedes drive and was quite off Hamilton
@DeRobezАй бұрын
@ I think he was beat down because Mercedes is exhausting 😂. He was phenomenal there but Merc is a PR machine and he’s too Finnish for all that nonsense lol. I think he did a great job as a number 2 for Lewis but we did see some signs at the end that he was sick of being “just” the #2 (think Zandvoort fastest lap 2021 lol). I do think that he’s faster than Checo and that his time at Mercedes would offer more technical knowledge than Sergio has. Hamilton, in my opinion is amongst the greatest in terms of technical feedback and I’m sure that rubbed off on Valtteri in their 5 seasons as teammates (difficult to prove though since he’s been at such an uncompetitive team since he left Mercedes). I also think that, since he doesn’t have a drive for next year, he would pounce at an opportunity to be in a competitive (we’ll have to see about that in a few months) car again and be willing to do whatever it takes to succeed there. Similar to Checo in the beginning at Red Bull. The only difference there is, Checo wasn’t ever really on a competitive team before that so I think he might have wanted to challenge Max a bit too much once he got the hang of the car
@DeRobezАй бұрын
@ damn, I wrote you a novel there lol. Sorry
@Hahxbe104ueloquruАй бұрын
@DeRobez I was worried when Red Bull signed Checo that he may not be quick enough, I didn't think he'd have an issue with the politics as Force India/Racing Point was extremely political, but he was better than I expected in 2021, I saw the signs in 2022 that he wasn't consistent, then in 2023 when he was down almost 300 points to Max that I was proven to be right. You know Max has outscored Checo by an average of 198.5 points a season over 4 seasons. To put that in perspective it'd have taken Albon 7 years to reach that point differential.
@DeRobezАй бұрын
@@Hahxbe104ueloquru I feel like his inconsistencies are somewhat justified though. When he stepped up & was competitive, he turned Max into an absolute monster on the track. Red Bull always favored & catered to Max but once he started dominating like that they made the car less drivable for Checo. Newey designed some of the fastest cars ever but they weren’t easy to extract performance from
@The123Orion123Ай бұрын
I think Lawson has had some bad luck in his races this season and had that not been the case I think he would be the clear driver for the RBRs second seat. He got taken out by Piastri in Brazil. That penalty gave Yuki an extra position giving him more points. Then there was the pit crew messing up his AD race when he clearly had pace over Yuki. He’s also out qualified Yuki in 2 out of the three sprints and been insanely close in the GP qualifiers. Then there is the fact he hadn’t raced at most of the tracks before and still was still in the mix with Yuki. His potential is far greater. A blind man could see that.
@LasttoF1rstАй бұрын
Good points on those asterisks for the season. I think Yuki’s had his chance to prove his case and Lawson has done a better job making his case in his very short F1 career so far

@henkormel56102 ай бұрын
@LasttoF1rst There is a big difference between pre and post 2014. Post 2014 there always was a dominant team and pre 2014 there wasn't. So the pre 2014 Lewis could still win some races. Post 2014 only 2021 and 2024 lacked a dominant team. It is all a relative game.

During the Mercedes dominance, RBR had to optimize ALL aspects of racing (both on and off track), just to make a chance to win a race. Meanwhile, McLaren was just floundering about, hoping to pick up any scraps (a bit hyperbolic, I know, but still…). When RBR did get the best car, they were ready for it. McLaren is only now starting to optimize, which will cost them this year’s WDC and maybe even next year’s. Seen that Ferrari seems to have found their stride, next year’s WCC will also be tight. And then there is the obvious lack of experience of Lando (and Oscar) in how to race for championships instead of just racing for race wins in F1. Next year will be lit.
@LasttoF1rst2 ай бұрын
RBR did have to optimize all of that during Merc dominance, but they did have their own dominance of the early 2010s to fall back on. So that helped. But of course many things would have changed between 2013 and 2022 so they would have had to re optimize. 2025 is looking like it's going to be so awesome, I just hope we aren't hyping ourselves up too much lol
