I just bought a 2006 expedition in great 94000 miles. It won't go into park, it shows it is in park but it is in R. I can start it by going past N and I can go into drive by shifting almost into 2 . shifts through all 4 gears and goes into OD. in town I get 16-17 mpg. it has a 5.4L 3 valve.

I like it if I wasnt so big ide got camper like that for me I had one 15 years ago nice 17ft one had to leave in mich a d get bus to move to louisuana was supost to go back get the camper and boat but grampa did dad moved I was disabed just lost business home and all was single parent. So just let it all go and work on getting place to stay while fighting Dis. But now im alot bigger than i was. But yea sucks lol. But ive wanted truck like that for years finally got 1 4 door well 2 door and 2 small doors and high ride boxes and mine the top opens which means no camper unless I hide the top storage. I fish and also run kids fishing group I want to travel a year been doing it 15 years now my daughter grown left home just me left so figure ill turn the truck into fishing truck for someone in wheel chair being I cant stand long ill be setting while rigging up rods to fish. Can set up for someone like me. Now top storage its so tall im 5.9 on tall day. Lol. But I have tip toe to see inside so I like for fishing rods 8ft long dont have to break down rods the ither side poles for tent or canapy so I like. Got me toy hauler to live in while traveling. Well not anymore kinda git scammed had damage in roof I wasnt told about first storm hit was bad but weight of frozen water set the top inside the camper. The cealing was rotten all down one side from leak I wasnt told about was small no it wasnt only out 3k have live saving other half went on truck 3.5k which was good deal. These trucks 4 doors great tires air and all. Orices 5 to 6.5k around here. For that age 01. Gmc. So I love your camper kinda wish I was smaller ide give up the top storage and pull a cargo trailer with boat and fish all over and handing out fishing gear to bless special kids all over. You have fun fixen up yours fully. God bless.

People are even running 3.5in lifts with longarms and big tires. The whole idea of keeping it "stock" looking while trying to fit 37s is pretty dumb when you look at all the geometry and how the suspension works. Function > Form.

I have a 3.5” lifted Rough Country long arm kitted TJ Rubicon. It has Johnny joints at the upper fronts we welded housings in for. The front track bar has a Moog K7252 (3/4 ton dodge) axle end bushing with a larger bolt. It drives like a car on the road with bead locks and 33” tires and pretty unstoppable off road.

I found a good solution to this thanks to you. I took your steps a bit further. That needle is set into a plastic sliding rail. You can pull down from underneath it and get it out. Once I had the rail out, I tried white lithium grease. Made it worse so I wiped it off. Next I slathered some brake caliper grease on it, worked like a charm. Thank you for your help.

I had a 3" short arm lift on an XJ and I would say that is the maximum height for short arms. I have people run 6.5" with drop down brackets but its still not as good as long arms. There are some clearance issues with long arm kits that require about 4" of lift to run one. I have 5" of lift and radius long arms. They flex better than short arms with less stress on joints and less binding. I can't say much as to the ride quality because I have not driven an XJ with the same amount of lift on short arms. Ride quality was never really a concern for me. Just off road performance. I started out small and have grown in my abilities over the years. My Jeep has grown (not in height) with me, getting trusses and lockers and chromoly shafts and getting rid of my dana 35 and replacing it with a Ford 8.8. Budget is the limiting factor for me but I knew enough to get a long arm kit from the beginning. The other mods have come slowly and were done cheaply. I paid $4,100 for the Jeep and have spent about $6,000 in upgrades over 6 years. Its hard to find a decent stock TJ for $10k, and you can have a pretty well built XJ for that price. I have done all of the upgrades myself, so if you can't/don't want to do them its going to double the cost. For me, I enjoy building the Jeep as much as I do wheeling it, they go hand in hand. Its all about having fun and meeting great people..... and overcoming obstacles!
@ProjectXJ
@ProjectXJ 3 жыл бұрын
If you add frame stiffeners right off the bat its really not a problem. Long arms are the way to go, there are no downsides except for the cost. But you can buy a budget long arm kit for cheaper than some other brands short arm kits. Honestly, an XJ or ZJ/WJ is so much cheaper to build than a TJ/JK.LJ that you can go wild and still not spend as much as just purchasing the Wrangler. IF you plan on doing anything more than paved and maintained roads, long arms are the way to go. Just buy the right kit from the start and save yourself some money. Although, I will say that plans change and people thought they just wanted to go camping and then they end up rock crawling so the right answer now may not be the right answer next year. Its a Jeep thing!

I'm experiencing this in my mustang. I agree and notice pretty much all the popular aftermarket wheels have a more outward offset. It may look cooler, but doesn't ride well and doesn't feel safe at high speeds. Sadly I sold my oem wheels. Gonna try to find an aftermarket wheel that is close to oem spec or maybe just buy some oem wheels even if they are scratched up

Remove the lower plastic under the steering wheel. Should be four 7mm screws. Then the hood release from the metal plate should be two 7mm screws. Then the metal plate, should be four 8mm bolts. You should be able to look under the right side of the steering wheel. Worst case you can also remove the lower plastic part of the steering column, should be two Phillips screws.

I have a 02 Overland w IRO 3" springs w/ 3/4 spacer in front, IRO A-arm & adjustable short arms both ends, Flex connect on front swaybar, Addco rear bar, Bilstein 5100's, 31.5" Cooper AT's and my Jeep rides like SHIT. I think my rear springs yielded more than 3" lift, as I needed the spacer in front to level it...so I'm at about 4" now and I am PAST that threshold where I need long arms. The downward angle of the front arms is really apparent. I feel every stupid little bump in the road...whaBAM! It sucks. RC long arm upgrade kit is in my near future...

What about long arm vs short arm affecting break over angle
@kevinsoffroad7265
@kevinsoffroad7265 5 жыл бұрын
1) Normally, long arms are installed so that additional lift can be achieved, which negates the ground clearance issue of the mounts. 2) The arms are typically only 30" or so long...their mounting points are not that close to the center of the vehicle where you're most likely to get high-centered.

Have done a few runs through Mexico so far (which is AWESOME)...and then flew in and out of Panama (which was also awesome)...but have not yet completed the trip we're building the truck for. Since this video, we rebuilt the top end, installed a new Bosch injection pump, removed the Elkhorn camper and replaced it with a custom Four Wheel Camper with a lower profile (which is still being built out). Just got back from the CO Rockies and the thing ran beautiful...averaged 14-15 mpg pulling a (small) trailer even! Very much looking forward to the big trip when it FINALLY happens. Thanks for asking.
