Did you ever try using double backhand? I feel that your single backhand often falls short, slow and loopy. Errors also mostly from the single backhand or slice. I believe you will be in a much better position if you are using a double backhand.

We'd have a lot of fun playing together. I have a comment about your serve -- leave the ground and jump forward into the ball, even if you're hitting that big round topspin stroke. Your left foot is virtually on a pivot and gets maybe 3" of vertical. You've got the legs launch upward. Use 'em. Nice hitting!

Thanks for the kind comments. @leisurefarm I would seriously say we both played horrible (way below each of our normal standards) this session. I would rate my performance here as 5/10 of my capabilities. Bad day. I was already physically quite beaten up (with a swollen right knee) but was super keen to try the Kallang Indoor so I linked up with Nat, prepared to just hit around (as strings were also knowingly quite dead) and play a very easy going game. Was in fact a little taken aback when Nat whipped out his camera and said he would record the session as I knew it would only be crap from me. As sure as Roger's forehand, 51yr old me, started off fine but was already panting midway by the 3all point, huffing and puffing, armed with uncontrollable dead strings and unwilling footwork that kept me struggling in simple shot production. Nat had to edit out all the time i took in between serves, as i was trying to catch my breath back. 🥲Consistency together with strength and footwork, of course, went completely downhill as my stamina ran on reserve despite trying very hard not to show it. As for Nat, I really appreciate his gamestyle, fast committed hitting with crisp serves and taking the right chances whenever he can. None of that pusher shit. However, he had his fair share of unforced errors in this game which i am sure, frustrated him too. Overall Nat was quick and agile around the court, as seen especially with the tweener, a complete contrast of my sluggish lethargic painful crawling. I guess I was asking for it, going up against someone 20 yrs my junior in a singles game. My dressing younger didnt help either, damn.🤣😂...hahaha. Cheers😄😀.

you seem to be your own biggest enemy in tennis, you are never out hit and it's always you who hit wide or long. If you wanna improve you should work on the high balls you get in the middle and learn to take them higher so you can put them away, instead of letting them drop making you have to hit upward reducing your ability to generate pace and angles. You get so many of those points on most of your matches because of your strong ground strokes and serve. Basically practice going into the ball more and learning to see when the ball will be short so you can take it shoulder or slightly below shoulder level instead of waiting short balls to drop to hip or even below hip level. This is not a technique thing it's mostly a ball reading skill

Definitely you had the skills and chance of defeating Joao! In the tournament, your opponent might be more nervous than you. So, try to keep the consistency level high at least the first 3 or 4 games without going for too much. Aim to hit inside the lines (1m from the lines) rather than on the lines. When the nerves settle, you can go for a bit more but still need to balance between attacks and defence and yet keep the consistency level up.

Improve your consistency. Too many unforced errors for a 3.5. Try to keep the ball on the court, other than try to hit a winner every shot. Angulate less, control more, keep the ball playing until you can secure a proper winner. You're missing A LOT of returns because you're trying to hit a very angulated ball in a narrow window. Keep the ball playing, don't try to finish in 2 balls. Your opponent is cashing on your mistakes with zero effort. The backhand also needs a lot of work. Also, why always playing baseline? Try to attack from the net, you did a solid job when you tried in a few points. There's a lot to improve, but you play well.
