The template is perfect. How did you make the bullseye in the center of the black marker. It’s perfect and makes the hole punches uniform. My problem is the darn template. Thanks

Mine came out way too clumpy. It looks like you put way more than 1/4 cup cold water also. You literally put like a full cup in there

Hi Papercraft Panda! Jim from Madrid, Spain (a wildlife - nature artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad). GREAT VIDEO!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I really mean it! When you have an artist's budget DIY projects become the norm, not only due to costs but also because you can use the best materials you need in doing so. This is the BEST Coptic Stitch tutorial I've watched on YT. For real and I've watched a few already! My artist's needs are NEVER met with commercially sold artist sketchbooks due to paper quality needed for Watercolour and Gouache (mainly), as well as for inking, graphite, pastels, etc. Sketchbooks are a great Artist tool to explore ideas, new projects and new materials, as well as having them always with you wherever you go whilst keeping an organized record in time and with your own practice and exploration. The problem with commercial sketchbooks is, for one, their COST (specially in the last years with inflation, manufacturing, logistics and taxes rising globally) and the fact that commercially sold sketchbooks do not meet everyone's needs (less to more experienced artists), reasons why DIY sketchbooks are real and future need for artists, since you can then choose the proper materials for YOU and your Art. I've tried to make some sketchbooks in the past but they never came out as nice and beautiful as yours in this VIDEO, and now I know why and what I need to make them perfect for me. So, again, thank you very much and for sure that I will pass on to other fellow artists this information (this video and your YT channel) that I already know are in need of assistance and help to cover the same daily needs as myself. I just subscribed to your channel and thank you so much for TEACHING us in such a clear and direct way. Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎✌

Hi! Does this mean that my coptic-style books should have up to a 30% spine swell once I've finished stitching it? If It doesn't have any swell, then I should aim to stitch with a combination of thread and paper type to create swell?

Very thorough tutorial, thanks so much. One question, why do you start sewing from the back?
@papercraftpanda50773 ай бұрын
Great question! I sew from the back because it's more common to make mistakes when you first get going. This way, if mistakes do happen, they're at the back of the book and "out of sight" :) I've been making books for many years and I'll still bumble at the beginning, so it's a great way to help myself if you know what I mean!

Hello PaperCraftPanda ❤ Thank you so much for this tutorial, it was very helpful. I do have 1 question: I see 90% of people attache the 2nd signature to the front cover before adding the 1st signature in last. I’ve always wondered: What’s the reason behind doing this, rather than sewing all signatures (including the top final one) and adding the cover by sewing it onto the final signature? Is it a structural thing or visual aesthetic thing?

Hi! I noticed on your blog tutorial for this you said use paper 10.25 x 6.25. however, I have failed to find and paper that size - does that mean that you cut this paper down to that size yourself? Thanks!

Same here. I was taught you make the loop and then thread the needle through it underneath - not over. Does it really "knot" [snort snort!] make a difference either way?

I'm just a beginner, I find very difficult to use the cutter when necessary for the sheets😢
@papercraftpanda50777 ай бұрын
@@giovannascotti488 Hi there! My kit has all of the materials pre-cut, so I think you might be talking about making this book with your own materials at home. If so, you said you're using a cutter... do you mean a cutter with a swing arm? Or are you referring to using an Olfa knife and manually cutting each sheet?

Hi, can you please tell me where I can purchase steel spacers? TiA :-)
@Lectora308 ай бұрын
Thank you for this. I recently took a sewn structure bookbinding class. I want to practice the stitch on some books, but I needed a simpler design. The book we made in class had a one sided decorative paper that we wrapped around the front signature and back signature (pattern side turned inward. Then we glued another sheet of same pattern to some chip board and used that as the front and back cover. It makes to outer cover sturdy, but I feel like the weight of the chip board will tear the decorative paper from opening and closing too much. Again, your presentation is much easier to practice. I will give it a try right now!
@papercraftpanda50776 ай бұрын
I agree, the weight of the chipboard might be hazardous over the long term, but what an interesting design. I hope the tutorial helped you give this new structure a try. Let me know what you think!
