I'm not sure if the tempo used in this version is the original tempo. it sounds slower than others. I've heard other pianists perform this piece at a higher tempo. So now I'm not sure which is the correct one.

The keyboard part is was written for a harmonium or reed organ, not a piano. Using a piano removes the sustained tones of the reed organ; the percussive nature of a piano produces a completely different effect. As they don't make reed organs any more, I'd suggest a bandonion or accordion.
