can't you just use fire arrows to melt the ice surrounding the hookshot targets and hookshot your way up? cool use of the ice arrows either way though
@rayjchrist16 күн бұрын
If you check the pause menu at 0:02 you'll see I don't HAVE the Fire Arrows - This is a Romhack where the author has changed the locations of all the items to the game (it's a great Romhack by the way...). I didn't find the Fire Arrows until later in the game - so that wasn't an option.

This isn't the original game. It is a modified version called "Gold Quest" where the contents of the dungeons were heavily modified, items moved around between dungeons, NPC dialogue changed, etc, to make the gameplay completely different. It's really fun! You can find it here: www.romhacking.net/hacks/6622/

(circa 20min in) Ive seen a lot of people bird-herd, but your strategy was innovative! Ive watched something like ten full playthroughs from different streamers and none of them happened upon your ladder circumvention strategy. Quite successful! (You're definitely not yhe only person who spent a lengthy time bird herding, either; take heart!)
@rayjchristАй бұрын
Haha I appreciate that! I still feel as though there is a secret regarding the birds that hasn’t been made public knowledge yet. He wouldn’t put them in, and draw it into the manual, only for shits and giggles.
@eloisemasonАй бұрын
@@rayjchrist also, this game is INCREDIBLY good at getting players to fixate on something as "a puzzle" or a hidden mechanic (especially about how exactly all the cards work) in a way that almost feels superstitious. 😁 Rest assured, at least, that bird herding is not necessary to 100% the game or get all the endings. Future secrets may yet be revealed by Shouldice, of course, but we're getting down to in joke Easter egg territory.

Naturally, you are supposed to get the Lens of Truth to cross over on Haunted Wasteland in order to reach Spirit Temple. This is actually cryptic because most people beat Shadow before Spirit but the intended order is Spirit before Shadow.
@rayjchrist2 ай бұрын
I’m not sure if it is the INTENDED order… because the cut scene in Kakariko after beating the Water Temple points you very strongly in the direction of the Shadow Temple. And you need the Hover Boots from the Shadow Temple to get to the Spirit Temple. But this is why I liked the Gold Quest romhack so much - it has you visiting new temples before you finish previous ones and then coming back to them with different items. It mixes things up really well and encourages you to try obscure tech like this.
@hylianmono2 ай бұрын
@@rayjchristyou don't need the hover boots though, you can finish the gerudo part of the game without them

In the usual version of the game, yes. But this is the Gold Quest ROM, which is a fun alternate version made by AndiiSyn, a member of the community. It changes the story a bit and the location of all the items (not randomised, but thoughtfully placed) so that you need to change up the order of the Temples, and start doing some Temples halfway through finishing others. It also changes the interiors of all the dungeon rooms to make the puzzles different and more interesting. It really breathes new life into the game. It also means that you get the Ice Arrows before finishing the Water Temple, and he sped up the tempo of the spikes so that you NEED to use the Ice Arrows on them. Google "Zelda OoT Gold Quest" to find the ROM. For me, it's still the first search result on Google.
@drygnfyreАй бұрын
In the base game, if you do the ideal path where you only need seven keys, you can get the Ice Arrows with just the Bow and Hookshot. None of the other items are required. But this also means you need to get Epona as soon as you become an adult and free the carpenters. And since you only need to go halfway through the Forest Temple to get the Bow, you should be able to obtain the Ice Arrows without any temples cleared. I think there are some keys that can only be seen with Lens of Truth, but you can find them with trial and error.
